Franz Morat unveils innovative system that comfortably rotates and turns bedridden patients

May 20, 2021 by David Edwards

For bedridden individuals, everything revolves around the correct resting position in the bed. The position must be adjusted to match each individual patient and their physical condition.

This means the patient’s position in the bed must be changed regularly to take pressure off of areas of the patient’s body and to prevent pressure sores. The goal is to make life in bed as pleasant as possible for the person in need of care.

Turning and repositioning bedridden individuals is a physically challenging procedure for caregiving staff. It is usually performed multiple times per day by a team of two or three caregivers and it requires a lot of time. Ekso Bionics provides exoskeletons to hospitals in Florida

May 12, 2021 by David Edwards

Ekso Bionics, a developer of exoskeleton technology for medical and industrial use, has expanded partnership with Kindred Healthcare, bringing EksoNR, the most clinically used robotic exoskeleton, to four of Kindred’s Long-Term Acute Care Hospitals in the US.

The multi-unit order follows a successful pilot program of the EksoNR last year.

EksoNR has become a standard of care within Kindred’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospitals by driving patient outcomes in neurorehabilitation through early mobility and gait training.

In 2019, Kindred executed a proof of concept in the Houston LTAC market and, after a successful implementation, launched three additional Ekso programs in the Houston-metro area in 2020. [Read more…] about Ekso Bionics provides exoskeletons to hospitals in Florida

Roam Robotics launches ‘smart knee’, a robotic partial exoskeleton

May 7, 2021 by David Edwards

Roam Robotics, an artificial intelligence and wearable robotics company, has launched its Ascend product, a “first-of-its-kind smart knee orthosis that helps wearers reduce knee pain and regain mobility”, according to the company.

Ascend’s technology is actively adapting, meaning it senses the body’s movement, automatically adjusts to the wearer’s needs, and provides precise support at the right moment for target muscle groups.

It is a registered Class I device with the FDA and will be available for purchase directly and through private and Medicare insurance, radically expanding public accessibility to wearable robotic devices. [Read more…] about Roam Robotics launches ‘smart knee’, a robotic partial exoskeleton

MIT unveils robot that can brush your hair

April 30, 2021 by Sam Francis

MIT has unveiled a robot that can brush your hair for you as you can’t be bothered because this is the 10,000th lockdown and no one has seen you for decades and your hair hasn’t even seen the light of day for at least a year. (See video below.)

MIT says the robotic arm is equipped with a hairbrush helps with brushing tasks and could be “an asset in assistive care settings”.

With rapidly growing demands on health care systems, nurses typically spend 18 to 40 percent of their time performing direct patient care tasks, oftentimes for many patients and with little time to spare. Personal care robots that brush your hair could provide substantial help and relief. [Read more…] about MIT unveils robot that can brush your hair

Data loggers and cold chain management: What you should know

March 22, 2021 by Liv

Who could have seen that coming? In the era of COVID-19, “cold chain” has become a household phrase.

Or, if we’re not at that level yet, at least more and more people are thinking about what it takes to transport products over long distances, store them, and deliver them to end-buyers while keeping them at punishingly cold temperatures — sometimes below the average temperature of Antarctica!

Of course, the COVID-19 vaccines have sparked this interest in cold-chain management. Three vaccines have received emergency use authorization from the US Food and Drug Administration, received approval from the CDC, and are in the process of the most vast logistical rollout effort in human history.
