B&R unveils ‘AI-enhanced fitness tracking for machines’

May 5, 2025 by Mark Allinson

B&R Industrial Automation has unveiled what it describes as “AI-enhanced fitness tracking for machines” – or a new artificial intelligence-based system that monitors the health of industrial machines, aiming to help manufacturers prevent costly breakdowns and extend equipment lifespan.

The system functions much like a fitness tracker, continuously collecting performance data from machines and analyzing it in real time. By identifying subtle changes in vibration, temperature, and other indicators, the software can detect early signs of wear or failure – before they disrupt production.

Designed to integrate with B&R’s existing automation platforms, the system uses machine learning to adapt to each machine’s unique operating patterns. This allows it to improve diagnostic accuracy over time, tailoring maintenance recommendations to the actual usage and condition of the equipment. Tips from Honeywell: Balancing data center computing demands with energy efficiency

May 5, 2025 by Mark Allinson

Most people don’t think about the amount of energy they use every day or how the computing required for their daily social media check-ins, generative AI searches and online shopping sprees impacts that number. The computation of processors in a data center makes all those things – and more – happen.

Data centers also handle the processing needs of cloud computing, the Internet of Things, remote connectivity and the automation of businesses, organizations and governments of all sizes.

The proliferation of smart, connected devices – and new technologies – is driving the development of new data centers and updates to existing facilities globally. It’s also increasing global data center capacity, which is expected to grow from 59 GW in 2025 to 122 GW by the end of 2030. GFT and Google Cloud collaborate on new AI applications for Google’s Gemini Models

May 1, 2025 by Mark Allinson

Global digital transformation company GFT and Google Cloud are collaborating to bring their newest manufacturing-specific AI capabilities to factory floors.

Last year, GFT announced its implementation of Google Cloud’s Manufacturing Data Engine (MDE), which fueled new AI use cases, such as visual production line inspection, predictive machine maintenance, and production forecasting.

Now, GFT is unveiling its next set of applications built on Google’s Gemini Models, including the ability to determine the root cause of errors and defects, visual dashboards that enable users to query organization – wide data in natural language, predicting parts obsolescence before it results in machine downtime, and the ability to convert thousands of machine training manuals into avatar-led video demonstrations.
