Komatsu selects Ouster lidar for its supermassive autonomous vehicles

Komatsu, which manufactures driverless dump trucks and other equipment for the construction, mining, and forestry sectors, has selected Ouster for the supply of lidar for its supermassive autonomous vehicles.

The two companies signed a “multimillion-dollar agreement” to equip Komatsu’s vehicles with advanced 3D digital lidar sensors.

New database of materials accelerates electronics innovation

A massive new database of dielectric material properties could speed up the development of electronics like smartphones and energy storage systems.

In a collaboration between Murata Manufacturing, and the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), researchers have built a comprehensive new database of dielectric material properties curated from thousands of scientific papers.

Orca AI secures $72.5 million investment to scale autonomous shipping solutions

Orca AI, a developer of maritime technology, has closed an investment of $72.5 million in Series B funding.

Brighton Park Capital led the round with participation from existing investors Ankona Capital and Hyperlink Ventures.

The investment will enable Orca AI to further its autonomous platform, add new capabilities and enter new categories, including defense and security. The funding will also strengthen the company’s position as the market leader in autonomous shipping. Approximately 1.6 million humanoid robots will be working in the automotive manufacturing industry within the next 10 years, according to a report by IDTEchEx. Article by Yulin Wang, senior technology analyst at IDTechEx

Historically, the automotive and logistics sectors have led the charge in adopting automation and robotics, ranging from mobile robots and industrial arms to collaborative robots.

Now, in a similar trend, automotive OEMs and warehouse operators are once again taking the lead, this time with humanoid robots. Several industry giants, including BYD and Tesla, have announced plans to increase humanoid robot deployment tenfold over the next year.
