Nvidia to acquire Mellanox for $7 billion

Nvidia and Mellanox have reached a definitive agreement under which Nvidia will acquire Mellanox.

Nvidia will acquire all of the issued and outstanding common shares of Mellanox for $125 per share in cash, representing a total enterprise value of approximately $6.9 billion.

Hitachi and DFKI develop sensor suit to improve workplace safety

Hitachi and DFKI have jointly developed a “sensor suit” which uses artificial intelligence to quantify the physical load and stress on manual workers.

Hitachi and DFKI – short for the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence – say the AI-based suit can provide “effective feedback on the movement of each body part”.

Global spending on semiconductor fabrication equipment projected to decrease in 2019

Global semiconductor fabrication equipment spending is expected to decline 14 percent, to $53 billion, in 2019 but stage a strong recovery of 27 percent, rising to $67 billion, to set a new record in 2020, according to industry association Semi. 

Spurred by a slowdown in the memory sector, the 2019 downturn marks the end of a three-year growth run for semiconductor manufacturing equipment spending.

Over the past two years, memory accounted for an annual share of about 55 percent of all equipment, a proportion expected to drop to as low as 45 percent in 2019 but rebound to 55 percent in 2020.  [Read more…] about Global spending on semiconductor fabrication equipment projected to decrease in 2019

Majority of companies ‘do not understand safety requirements of collaborative robots’

The vast majority of companies implementing automation technologies “do not understand safety requirements of collaborative robots”, according to a survey undertaken by TM Robotics. 

The company asked for the opinions of automation distributors on current challenges related to robotics for its Global Robotics Report.

Volvo partners with Singapore university to launch ‘world’s first’ 12-metre fully electric autonomous bus

Global automaker Volvo has partnered with a Singapore university to launch what they say is “the world’s first 12-metre fully electric autonomous bus”. (See video below.)

Volvo Buses and the Nanyang Technological University and Singapore’s Land Transport Authority say the new autonomous bus is the first of two buses they plan to operate.

Geek Plus Robotics to launch new products at Asian logistics event

Geek Plus Robotics is planning to launch new warehouse automation products at Last Mile Fulfilment Asia 2019.

Geek Plus says it will demonstrate a moving system, M100, and the upgrade version of picking system, P800, at Last Mile Fulfilment Asia in Singapore on 27 and 28 March 19.

Automated guided vehicles market size forecast to be worth $7.3 billion by 2025

The global automated guided vehicles market size is expected to reach $7.3 billion by 2025, from the current size of more than $2 billion, according to a new report by Grand View Research, registering a 16.5 percent annual growth over the forecast period.

AGVs are transforming the way materials can be moved within manufacturing and distribution facilities.
