hannover-messe-2017

Deutsche Messe is the company behind the annual Hannover Messe industrial technology show, and generates annual revenues of around $360 Million, give or take $100 million.

The company has been expanding recently into Asia, with several new trade events for the manufacturing industry as well as the logistics sector.

For the logistics sector, Deutsche Messe holds a series of events under the brand name of CeMAT. While both these events are expectedly huge in Germany, they are also rather large in other parts of the world. [Read more…] about Hannover Messe: Global expansion for events platform

Country insight: Singapore industry prepares for transformation

April 17, 2018 by Mai Tao

Singapore is so small that you could walk from coast to coast in less than an hour, with a coffee break halfway into your stroll.

Located in southeast Asia, at the southern edge of Malaysia, Singapore island has a total land area of around 700 square kilometres.

And its population is tiny too, numbering well under 6 million, 75 per cent of whom are of Chinese background, 13 per cent Malay, and 10 per cent Indian, with “others” accounting for the rest.  [Read more…] about Country insight: Singapore industry prepares for transformation

Mad scientists could replace real swans with robot swans worldwide

February 1, 2018 by Sam Francis

The global swan population could become extinct if mad scientists are given free reign to replace them with robotic swans they are creating in their labs.

Though highly unlikely, it’s worth thinking about, especially as some apparently sane scientists at the National University of Singapore have already started replacing real swans with robotic ones, probably not thinking about the possible future consequences of global mass production.

And they’ve even nabbed the name – their robotic swan is called “Swan”, short for Smart Water Assessment Network. It’s also super-strong – capable of withstanding collisions with kayaks and small boats.  [Read more…] about Mad scientists could replace real swans with robot swans worldwide

Several south-eastern Asian nations have entered into a partnership to create what’s being described as a “robotics ecosystem” for the region.

The basic idea is to increase the use of robotics, automation, and related technologies to improve their industrial sector.

Industry associations from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam have agreed to sign a deal which was outlined by trade minister Dr Koh Poh, at the ongoing Singapore International Robo Expo.  [Read more…] about South-east Asian nations partner to create robotics ecosystem

Investors are increasingly excited about the prospects for much faster growth in the solar power industry in Southeast Asia, which has until now been a backwater for renewable energy.

They say that the region is in a perfect position to benefit from rapidly declining prices in solar panels. It has strong economic growth, relatively high costs of electricity and a shortage from traditional sources, undeveloped infrastructure in more remote areas, plenty of sunshine, and backing for more renewable energy from many of Southeast Asia’s governments.

“Dramatically falling costs for solar energy technologies means businesses and governments are choosing renewable energy not for environmental reasons but for economic ones,” said Roberto De Vido, spokesman for Singapore-based Equis, one of Asia’s biggest green energy-focused investment firms with $2.7 billion in committed capital. “It simply makes good business sense. And that’s a trend that’s not going to change.”  [Read more…] about Solar power revolution ‘unavoidable’ in Asia, says industry expert

Driverless car software developer nuTonomy will integrate its self-driving software and sensor system into the new Peugeot 3008 for on-road testing later this year.

The ultimate goal of the partnership between the two companies is the deployment of thousands of fully autonomous cars in cities worldwide.

nuTonomy and Groupe PSA– which owns the Peugeot brand – say the system will initially use the Peugeot 3008s for on-road testing of fully autonomous cars in Singapore. The Peugeot 3008 was recently named 2017 European Car of the Year.

Under the initial phase of the partnership, nuTonomy will install its software, along with specialized sensors and computing platforms, into Peugeot 3008 vehicles that have been customized by PSA’s innovation teams.  [Read more…] about Groupe PSA and nuTonomy partner to test autonomous Peugeot cars in Singapore
