Electrified Mercedes EQC goes into production

May 15, 2019 by Anna

The Mercedes-Benz of electric vehicles is ready for launch. The EQC is produced at the company’s Bremen plant and can be ordered now.

The first EQC will roll off the production line at the company’s plant in Bremen. There it is being produced on the same line as the C-Class Saloon and Estate as well as the GLC and GLC Coupé.

Production of vehicles with various drive systems can be adapted variably and efficiently in line with market demand. This approach ensures the best use of capacity at the plant.

The cooperative car: Intuitively knowing what the car is planning

February 22, 2019 by Anna

Autonomous driving is going to be an integral part of mobility in the future. Mercedes-Benz considers empathy and trust to be central factors for the acceptance of self-driving vehicles.

Because for people to have trust in the machine, they must immediately and intuitively be able to recognise what an autonomous vehicle intends to do. Mercedes-Benz is conducting research into this “informed trust” with the help of the “cooperative car”.

The cooperative car is based on an S-Class, and features 360-degree light signalling. Turquoise lights on the roof indicate autonomous driving mode, and provide information on what happens next:

Mercedes-Benz uses 3D printing for ‘classic’ replacement parts

January 8, 2019 by Anna

Mercedes-Benz has been offering 3D printed replacement commercial vehicle parts since 2016, now further replacement parts have passed quality assurance and are coming onto the market.

The inside mirror base for the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Coupé (W 198 model series), the spark plug holder from the tool kit of this iconic sports car as well as the sliding sunroof rollers for the W 110, W 111, W 112 and W 123 model series: these are important replacement parts for faithfully maintaining this classic of the brand.

Mercedes-Benz Classic has them newly produced in a 3D print. The process is particularly well-suited to smaller quantities, which allows gaps in the replacement part supply of classic vehicles to be closed.

Daimler and Bosch choose San Jose as pilot city for automated on-demand ride-hailing service

November 9, 2018 by David Edwards

Daimler and Bosch automated driving

Two giants of the global automotive industry – Daimler Mercedes-Benz and Bosch – have chosen San José as the pilot city for their automated on-demand ride-hailing service.

These companies tend to use the word “automated” to mean autonomous or driverless.

The test area will be the San Carlos-Stevens Creek corridor between downtown and west San José.

The on-demand ride-hailing service app will offer an automated driving experience to a selected user community.  [Read more…] about Daimler and Bosch choose San Jose as pilot city for automated on-demand ride-hailing service

Mercedes-Benz tests autonomous driving on five continents

August 24, 2018 by Anna

A Mercedes-Benz test vehicle based on the current S‑Class has completed a challenging study trip on five continents in order to “learn” in automated test drives in real traffic.

From zebra crossings on Chinese motorways, turning right from the left-hand lane in Melbourne, Australia, pedestrian traffic on all kinds of roads in South Africa or a temporary driving ban in the immediate vicinity of stopping school buses in the USA – on every continent the S‑Class faced challenges which will have an influence on the driving characteristics of future autonomous vehicles.

Automated and autonomous vehicles have to know about these country-specific particularities and understand them in their respective context in order to be able to make the correct driving decisions.

On the way to autonomous driving: Mercedes-Benz on an automated test drive in South Africa

December 19, 2017 by Sam Francis

Mercedes-Benz is testing automated driving functions in South Africa

Daimler Mercedes-Benz has been testing its autonomous driving technologies on the roads in South Africa

Road traffic in South Africa poses some very special challenges: different road surfaces, wild animals on the road and many pedestrians in both urban traffic and on national roads, which often cross the road completely unexpectedly.

Automated and autonomous vehicles must take these special features into account and respond reliably.

On the fourth leg of the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent World Drive, the test vehicle, which is based on the S-Class series sedan, presents its South African peculiarities in automated test drives in the Western Cape Province and in Cape Town.  [Read more…] about On the way to autonomous driving: Mercedes-Benz on an automated test drive in South Africa
