Ambarella unveils ‘world’s first’ centrally processed 4D imaging radar architecture for autonomous vehicles

December 7, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Ambarella, an edge AI semiconductor company, has launched what it says is “the world’s first centralized 4D imaging radar architecture”, which allows both central processing of raw radar data and deep, low-level fusion with other sensor inputs – including cameras, lidar and ultrasonics.

The company says this is a breakthrough architecture which provides greater environmental perception and safer path planning in AI-based ADAS and Level 2+ to L5 autonomous driving systems, as well as autonomous robotics.

It features Ambarella’s Oculii radar technology, including the only AI software algorithms that dynamically adapt radar waveforms to the surrounding environment—providing high angular resolution of 0.5 degrees, an ultra-dense point cloud up to tens of thousands of points per frame and a long detection range up to 500+ meters. Autonomous trucking developer Inceptio partners with chipmaker Ambarella

July 25, 2022 by David Edwards

Inceptio Technology, an autonomous driving truck technology developer, has selected two each of Ambarella’s CV2FS and CV2AQ edge AI systems on chip (SoCs) – a total of four CVflow SoCs – for its automotive-grade central computing platform.

This platform is at the core of Inceptio’s full-stack XuanYuan autonomous driving system for trucks, where Ambarella’s SoCs provide high-performance and low-power processing simultaneously for seven 8MP cameras, including AI compute, for surround camera perception and front ADAS safety features like collision avoidance.

Susan Beardslee, ABI Research’s principal analyst for supply chain management and logistics, says: “Globally, there were over 223 million registered commercial vehicles (light-duty to heavy-duty) by the end of 2021. KeepTruckin partners with Ambarella to develop next-generation AI device for ADAS

August 23, 2021 by David Edwards

KeepTruckin, a provider of fleet management technology, has selected Ambarella’s CV22 CVflow edge AI vision system on chip for its new AI Dashcam.

This latest AI Dashcam, also announced today, uses a single CV22 SoC to simultaneously provide AI and image processing for its dual-camera system, which integrates one camera for the front advanced driver assistance system with incident recording, and a second RGB-IR camera for the driver-monitoring system with driver recording.

Additionally, with Ambarella’s industry-leading edge AI processing performance-per-watt, the CV22 enables the AI Dashcam to run KeepTruckin’s proprietary sophisticated and accurate AI algorithms for real-time high-risk behavior detection and active warnings directly on the small form factor device, with minimal heat dissipation. Ambarella, Lumentum and ON Semiconductor collaborate on AI processing based 3D sensing for next-gen AIoT devices

May 26, 2021 by Mai Tao

Ambarella, an AI vision silicon company, Lumentum, a designer and manufacturer of innovative optical and photonic products, and ON Semiconductor, a provider of CMOS image sensor solutions, have partnered to produce two new joint reference designs that they say will “accelerate artificial intelligence of things device deployment across verticals”.

The designs build on the companies’ previous joint solution for contactless access systems.

By combining the data from Lumentum’s high-performance VCSEL array illuminators and an ON Semiconductor image sensor using Ambarella’s AI SoC, higher levels of accuracy and more intelligent decision-making can be achieved in next-generation AIoT devices for biometric access control, 3D electronic locks and other intelligent sensing applications.
