DJI launches two new drones and ‘sphere’ vision system

DJI, probably the world’s largest civilian drones maker, has introduced two new drones and a new way for looking at the world, which the company calls “Sphere” panorama. 

The two new drones are called Mavic Pro Platinum and Phantom 4 Pro Obsidian, and they will be showcased at IFA event, in Berlin.

Analysis: New Nest Labs security products face stiff competition, says IHS Markit

Nest Labs has expanded into the home security market with a range of products which includes the Nest Secure alarm system, Nest Hello video doorbell, Nest Cam IQ outdoor security camera, and corresponding software and services. 

The video doorbell uses Google’s facial recognition technology.

Nest Labs is one of the first big movers in the home automation market, and the company is thought to be one of the leaders.

Chinese search giant Baidu launches $1.5 billion fund for autonomous car tech

Baidu – China’s equivalent of Google – has launched a $1.5 billion fund for autonomous car technology.

The company’s newly established Apollo Fund will invest in 100 autonomous driving projects in the next three years.

EMO Hannover opens to high-power audience

The annual showcase for metalworking, EMO Hannover, has been ceremonially opened by President FrankWalter Steinmeier. 

In his opening remarks, Steinmeier (main picture, centre) said: “An open society and prosperous economy rest on a foundation of communication and trust.

Embedded computing market to grow over $200 billion by 2022

The global embedded computing market will grow to more than $200 billion by 2022, according to a new report.

The sectors accounting for a significant portion of the expected growth will be automotive and industrial.

Aerotech releases multi-axis robotic controller

Aerotech has released its HEX RC, a 6-axis motion controller which it says is ideal for controlling robotic systems like hexapods.

Advantech releases two new internet gateways for factories

Advantech has released two new gateways which it says enable “seamless protocol conversion” for internet of things data.

The new gateways extend the company’s Protocol Gateway Series for protocol conversion.

Robotiq launches online monitoring tool for Universal Robots

Robotiq has launched an online tool which enables the monitoring of Universal Robots machines. 

The web application is called Insights and the company says it can measure a Universal Robots machine’s performance.
