Kuka generates $1.8 billion in revenues in first half of 2018

Kuka has published an interim report of its financial results for the first half of 2018, and sales revenues are just over $1.8 billion.

This is less than the sales revenue Kuka generated in the first half of last year, which was $2 billion, and that seems to be the case for orders received and orders backlog – all slight below figures from last year’s first half.

Atlas Copco acquires niche machine vision solutions provider

Atlas Copco, a provider of sustainable productivity solutions, has acquired German Quiss Qualitäts-Inspektionssysteme und Service AG. The company specialises in machine vision solutions for quality inspection and robot guidance, and is mainly used in the automotive industry.

Quiss is based near Munich in Germany. The company had revenues of approximately 8.4m euros in 2017 and 45 employees.

Quiss’ core competence is image processing, algorithms, as well as system design including hardware and software. The products are mainly used for quality inspection of adhesive dispensing applications within the automotive industry.

Kuka wins multimillion-dollar automotive contract with GAC in China

Kuka has received an order to supply industrial robots to Chinese automotive manufacturer GAC NE, subsidiary of GAC Group.

The order value lies in the “high double-digit million euro range”, says Kuka, and was booked in the second quarter of 2018.

Universal Robots introduces training course in Singapore

Universal Robots launched its systems in Singapore last year and is now looking to boost robotics literacy through a collaborative robotics course 

Current and potential employees in Singapore will soon be able to add robotics literacy, an increasingly important skill, to their CVs as automation gains wide adoption in the country.

Universal Robots, the pioneer and market leader of collaborative robots, has partnered with Singapore’s National Trades Union Congress’ e2i (Employment and Employability Institute), to establish the UR Collaborative Robotics Course.

Swisslog wins CarryPick order with Waytek

Swisslog Logistics Automation is to install CarryPick at electrical parts supplier Waytek’s Chanhassen, Minnesota distribution centre.

Swisslog’s CarryPick solution is a mobile system for flexible, scalable order fulfilment. CarryPick’s mobile robots  supply workstations with mobile racks.

The system supports different sizes and weights of products, provides the ability to add racks and robots quickly as storage volume increases, and enables equipment to be easily moved from one warehouse to another. The goods-to-person solution is orchestrated by Swisslog’s SynQ warehouse management software.

Pilz launches robot measurement system

Safety specialist Pilz has launched a new robot measurement system.

The company says the new force and pressure measurement system, PROBms, “guarantees the standard-compliant safety of human-robot collaboration”.

US-China trade war affecting Fanuc’s industrial robot sales

The trade war between China and the US is negatively affecting the sales of Fanuc’s industrial robots, according to the Nikkei newspaper. 

In recent months, the US and China have been introducing new taxes on imports from each other’s countries, and this has set up Fanuc for a tough year ahead, reports Nikkei.

Koki connects all 60 of its industrial robots to ABB’s Ability internet platform

Koki Transmission has connected all 60 of its industrial robots to the ABB Ability internet platform.

The company is said to have connected its robots for the purposes of condition monitoring and diagnostics.
