AGCO completes Maryland assembly, distribution, training facility

November 23, 2019 by Sam Francis Leave a Comment

AGCO Corporation, a worldwide distributor and manufacturer of agricultural equipment, has completed expansion of its Edgewood, Maryland assembly and distribution facility.

The facility will be used to build Fendt high horsepower tractors and Massey Ferguson compact and utility tractors and equipment.

The location also now includes a training center to provide dealers in the region a more cost-effective, time-efficient location for product and service training.

Bill Hurley, vice president, aftersales, customer support and distribution development, AGCO, says: “Our investment in the Edgewood facility is one of the strategic initiatives to support the growth of the North American Fendt dealer network, which has more than doubled in the past year.

“The expansion also provides the space and storage needed to assemble and maintain inventory of the fastest-selling products, which ultimately will reduce delivery times to dealers and get our Massey Ferguson compact and utility products into the hands of retail customers quickly, if not immediately.”

The Edgewood facility is strategically located just 27 miles from the Port of Baltimore, where Massey Ferguson compact and utility tractors and Fendt high horsepower tractors are received from their respective factories.

AGCO opened the location in 2008 and began updating the facility in July 2017. It now has 70 percent more under-roof storage and several enhancements.

The expansion incorporates industry-leading automated tire-handling equipment to eliminate lifting and manual tire installation, making the assembly process faster and reducing the risk of employee injuries.

Conversion to paperless order tracking through assembly, quality control and shipping also has improved efficiencies, allowing orders to be filled and shipped to dealers more quickly.

Larger, remodeled training center

With a continual flow of new products and more dealerships offering Fendt tractors, AGCO says the expanded and remodeled training center will be “highly useful” for training product specialists, service technicians and other dealer personnel on the latest product improvements and operating procedures.

Hurley says: “We’re working hard to support our dealers and bring innovative products to our customers. The investment in the Edgewood facilities is just one example of our efforts.”
