What are the different types of particle size analyzers?

October 26, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Everything we see with our eyes is made up of particles. Some such gases are made from very tiny ones that we cannot see with the naked eye.

In solids, the particles are well attracted to each other and vibrate in position without moving past each other. The attraction in liquids is the same but is in a flowing motion.

Generally, everything is particles and determining the size helps you know what you are dealing with. Read on to know more about particle size analysis. [Read more…] about What are the different types of particle size analyzers?

Hot Oil Flushing for Machinery Reliability: A Step Towards Preventive Maintenance

October 19, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Ensuring machines operate smoothly is of paramount importance for numerous companies. When machines break down, it can cause big problems. One way companies can keep machines running well is by doing hot oil flushing.

Hot oil flushing cleans the oil and parts inside machines. It eliminates dirt, metal fragments, and other residues that can accumulate in the oil.

All that gunk and grit can damage machines and make them break if it isn’t cleaned out. Hot oil flushing washes away the dirty stuff before it can cause harm. This proactive approach helps prevent issues before they arise. [Read more…] about Hot Oil Flushing for Machinery Reliability: A Step Towards Preventive Maintenance

How AI and Machine Learning Are Transforming Payroll Processing

October 13, 2023 by Mark Allinson

In a world not too long ago, payroll processing was a tedious task, often likened to the meticulous craftsmanship of a watchmaker. Every cog, every gear, every tiny piece had to be in perfect harmony for the entire machinery to work.

But what if I told you that the future of payroll is not just automated but intelligent, predictive, and transformative? Enter the realm of AI and Machine Learning. [Read more…] about How AI and Machine Learning Are Transforming Payroll Processing

Purdue thermal imaging innovation allows AI to ‘see through pitch darkness like broad daylight’

September 30, 2023 by David Edwards

Researchers at Purdue University are advancing the world of robotics and autonomy with their patent-pending method that improves on traditional machine vision and perception.

Zubin Jacob, the Elmore Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and research scientist Fanglin Bao have developed HADAR, or heat-assisted detection and ranging.

Their research was featured on the cover of the July 26 issue of the peer-reviewed journal Nature. A video about HADAR is available on YouTube. Nature also has released a podcast episode that includes an interview with Jacob. [Read more…] about Purdue thermal imaging innovation allows AI to ‘see through pitch darkness like broad daylight’

Fraunhofer designs robotic production system that is ‘as versatile as a Swiss Army knife’

September 25, 2023 by David Edwards

The Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology has designed a new robotic production system that it says is “as versatile as a Swiss Army knife”.

Fraunhofer says the system’s features and benefits include:

  • it is utilization-optimized;
  • flexibly arranged production modules equipped via driverless transport systems which can manufacture a variety of products;
  • a production planning and control system that can flexibly allocate these modules;
  • segmentation and intelligent distribution of manufacturing tasks; and
  • possible to produce large-size components in small facilities.

Fraunhofer adds that its “Matrix production and SWAP-IT create a production infrastructure that enables highly efficient manufacturing of even smaller quantities”. [Read more…] about Fraunhofer designs robotic production system that is ‘as versatile as a Swiss Army knife’

Universal Robots launches new software platform to make machine tending automation ‘faster, simpler and more flexible ’

September 6, 2023 by David Edwards

Universal Robots, the Danish manufacturer of collaborative robots (cobots), has unveiled a new brand-new, innovative software platform specifically developed for machine tending tasks.

The name is PolyScope X and through a new, customisable user interface, it will add new levels of flexibility to high mix, low volume machine tending automation.

With PolyScope X, machine shop operators can achieve changeover times of less than 10 minutes – far below what is possible today with any other software. [Read more…] about Universal Robots launches new software platform to make machine tending automation ‘faster, simpler and more flexible ’

A Helpful Guide to CNC Machining

May 23, 2023 by David Edwards

Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines are computer-programmed automated tools used in manufacturing to monitor and control movements and machine operations. Many manufacturing companies, including automotive, aerospace, and prototyping, use these machines to enhance their products and processes.

The best part is that CNC machines offer accuracy and precision, producing parts with tight tolerances while maintaining uniformity and quality. Once you understand how they operate, they’re also not that challenging to use.

This guide covers the basics of CNC machining, including the types, components, key considerations, and application. Read on for more information. [Read more…] about A Helpful Guide to CNC Machining

Machine Vision: Pick and place with FLIR thermal imaging cameras

May 20, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Machine vision inspections using visual cameras can occasionally cause recognition problems if the product and background have too little color contrast. In such cases, thermal imaging cameras can be a practical solution – especially if the product has a different temperature than the transport medium.

In many cases such temperature differences are caused by the production process. Injection molding applications are ideal for this, for example, because the produced parts come out of the machine here at a relatively high temperature.

A few years ago, at the German Rubber Conference DKT in Nuremberg, two Austrian companies presented a possible solution in this area. [Read more…] about Machine Vision: Pick and place with FLIR thermal imaging cameras
