Hanwha to invest $5 billion into shipbuilding in Philadelphia

Hanwha Group has announced a $5 billion infrastructure plan for Hanwha Philly Shipyard as part of South Korea’s commitment to supporting growth of the US shipbuilding industry through a $150 billion investment fund.

The announcement was made in time for the christening of a new training vessel, the US Maritime Administration’s (MARAD) third National Security Multi-mission Vessel (NSMV).

The naming ceremony, which took place at Hanwha Philly Shipyard, was attended by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, the First Lady, and other senior officials. Hanwha Aerospace earns ’Supplier Gold’ certification from Pratt & Whitney

Hanwha Aerospace has received a “Supplier Gold” certification from the one of the world’s top aircraft engine manufacturers, Pratt & Whitney (P&W).

The certification is the product of a partner evaluation program known as RTX Supplier Gold, which is run by P&W’s parent company, Raytheon Technology Corporation (RTX). It is awarded only to exceptional partners who have not missed deadlines or exhibited any quality control issues for 12 consecutive months, while exhibiting continuous improvements and satisfying customers.

Rolls-Royce awards Hanwha Aerospace parts supplier certification

Hanwha Aerospace has received the first Product Part Approval Process (PPAP) certification in the world from Rolls-Royce, one of the top three global aircraft engine manufacturers.

Established in 1884, Rolls-Royce is a UK-based aircraft engine manufacturer that, together with Pratt & Whitney and GE in the US, form the world’s top three engine makers.

The certification authorizes Hanwha Aerospace to perform PPAP inspections to verify that newly built aircraft engine parts meet requisite standards of quality. Hanwha launches new collaborative robot solutions

Hanwha has launched what it describes as “new advanced solutions”, including Hanwha Collaborative Robot Advanced (HCR Advanced) and a collaborative-robot-solutions package to continue building its momentum in the collaborative robot market that is expected to grow rapidly.

The global market for cobots was worth $1.2 billion last year, and it is expected to grow on average by 42 percent annually as more smart factories are built and the increasing demand for contactless services due to Covid-19 are expected to reach $7 billion by 2026.

In response, Hanwha is aggressively developing advanced cobots that combine Hanwha’s AI technology with its mobility capabilities. The company is integrating its robotics technology with existing logistics automation systems, secondary batteries, and display-related facilities to create synergy and satisfy the diverse needs of customers worldwide. Hanwha Energy celebrates completion of ‘world’s first and largest’ hydrogen fuel cell power plant

Hanwha Energy hosted an event at its Daesan Industrial Complex in Seosan, Korea to celebrated the completion of a hydrogen-fuel-cell power plant that only uses recycled hydrogen.

At the event, Hanwha Energy CEO In-Sub Jung was joined by South Korea’s Prime Minister Sye-kyun Chung, Vice Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Seung-il Chung, Chungcheongnam-do Governor Seung-jo Yang, Member of the National Assembly Myung-sun Kim, and Seosan Mayor Jeong-ho Maeng.

Hanwha Systems gearing up to enter air taxi market

Hanwha Systems is making a $25 million investment in US air taxi startup Overair, and has received approval from the relevant authorities for the move.

Hanwha Systems and Overair research and development are planning to co-develop and bring the “Butterfly” to the US air-taxi market by the year 2025.

In early December of 2019, Youn-Chul Kim, CEO of Hanwha Systems, said that the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) approved Hanwha Systems’ $25 million investment in Overair (previously K4 Aeronautics), a leading US air-taxi startup. Hanwha to supply $300 million of aircraft engine components to GE

Hanwha Aerospace has signed a $300 million contract to supply cutting-edge aircraft engine components to General Electric, the US conglomerate and one of the leading aircraft engine manufacturers in the world and a top supplier for Boeing.

Hanwha Aerospace will supply GE with 46 types of engine components for GE’s GE9X and LEAP engine.

Hanwha opens collaborative robotics centre in Europe

Hanwha Robotics has opened a collaborative robotics centre near Frankfurt, Germany. The company’s new Technical Centre will also highlight its other precision machinery offerings.

Hanwha Precision Machinery’s president, Ki-Nam Lee, officially launched the facility an a grand opening ceremony recently. The Technical Centre is part of Hanwha’s efforts to accelerate the company’s growth in the European market.

Hanwha demonstrates CNC machine tending using collaborative robot

Hanwha Robotics has demonstrated a CNC machine tending solution using its HCR-5 collaborative robot. 

The company says the demand for collaborative robot solutions is increasing because such solutions enable the operator to reduce waiting times during the process.
