Finnish automation company integrates tiny Mecademic SCARA robot in desktop work cell

October 15, 2024 by Mark Allinson

International Innovation Network (IIN), a Finland-based automation solutions company, has designed a desktop robot cell which features Mecademic’s MCS500 SCARA robot as a central component.

IIN has released the new design as a white-label desktop robot cell. Mecademic specializes in making small industrial robots that can fit easily on a small desk.

According to IIN’s CEO Teijo Fabritius, this new robot cell will be a cost-efficient standard automation solution ideal for operations requiring little or no customization.

Finland university aims to solve cruise liner passenger safety issues with ‘coughing robot’

December 30, 2021 by Mark Allinson

Finland’s Healthy Travel project, based at the Åbo Akademi University, is aiming to offer the global cruise industry a lifeline as cruise lines aim to set sail safely once again – through the use of a “coughing robot”.

In the multi-disciplinary initiative, Finnish academic researchers, cruise companies, shipyards, and subcontractors are coming together to develop and implement science-based solutions that will improve health and safety on cruise ships and in terminal buildings.

Finland’s Ambassador to the United States, Mikko Hautala, and his team are now connecting American cruise companies with their Finnish counterparts to ensure that the US cruise industry – the largest in the world – is an active participant in the recovery and future of the global cruise industry. Ket-Met reduces machine costs by more than 40 percent, says Universal Robots

July 8, 2019 by Sam Francis

Ket-Met has been able to reduce machine costs by more than 40 percent through the application of collaborative robots, according to a case study by Universal Robots

Ket-Met is a Finnish subcontract machine tooling shop.

Until recently, the company had progressively lost its cost competitiveness – the main reason for this was that its traditional way of using CNC machines required too much manpower.

Machine hour costs were reduced by over 40 percent due to Universal Robots’ cobots.

This helped the company win new orders. [Read more…] about Ket-Met reduces machine costs by more than 40 percent, says Universal Robots

‘Snow-how’: Finns develop autonomous snow removal vehicles

May 17, 2019 by Anna

Robotic vacuum cleaners and lawnmowers are already reality, but can the same idea be applied to a 7-ton machine clearing snow from an airstrip?

To show it can, Valtra and Nokian Tyres partnered up with three other Finnish companies in March 2019 for a joint proof-of-concept project at the European Union’s northernmost airport.

Two Valtra T254 Versu equipped with Nokian Hakkapeliitta TRI tyres and each pulling a 4.5 m wide sweeper blower autonomously cleared the runway at Ivalo airport in Finnish Lapland.
