Formula 1 racing organizer selects Siemens as official digital twin sponsor

September 14, 2025 by Sam Francis

Siemens Digital Industries Software has been selected by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) as “Official Digital Twin Sponsor”, as the global governing body for motor sport and federation for mobility organizations worldwide expands its use of Siemens software.

The FIA, which has welcomed Siemens into its new Global Partnership Programme, will extend its use of software from the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio to create and refine the aerodynamic concepts that shape the regulations for single-seater race cars, from Formula 1 through to Formula 4.

Using Siemens’ Designcenter NX software, the FIA can design complex vehicle models, visualise them in lifelike detail, and iterate digitally before running computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations on the model. AI-Driven Tool Wear Detection in Precision Milling

June 17, 2025 by Sam Francis

Tool wear is a predominant aspect in precision milling environments that affects accuracy, surface finish, and cost efficiency.

Tool wear detection systems have previously utilized AI-based approaches, enabling real-time insights into sensor data streams comprising vibration, acoustic emissions, and spindle load variations.

Scrap and rework are also minimized as these systems enable proactive changes of tools before a drop in performance can be noticed. [Read more…] about AI-Driven Tool Wear Detection in Precision Milling

B&R offers new possibilities with digital twins

March 4, 2019 by Anna

B&R Automation claims to have simplified model-based machine development with its new B&R MapleSim Connector, claiming it considerably reduces the time spent modelling machine components, with machine functions being easy to program and deploy.

B&R MapleSim Connector is integrated in the B&R Automation Studio environment and makes it efficient for B&R customers to integrate the MapleSim tool from Maplesoft.

MapleSim creates a highly accurate, dynamic model of the machine based on CAD data in STEP format. All forces and torques are modelled with great precision, allowing the model to be used as a digital twin for component sizing.
