Flytrex opens drone manufacturing facility in Dallas

May 22, 2026 by Sam Francis

Flytrex, an autonomous drone food delivery service, has announced the opening of a drone manufacturing and maintenance facility in Pilot Point, Texas, as the company accelerates its push to build a network of 60 delivery sites across the Dallas-Fort Worth metro by mid-2027.

The facility – capable of assembling thousands of drones annually – will serve as the operational backbone for the company’s expansion in the region, building on recent commercial partnerships with DoorDash and Uber Eats, two of the largest food delivery platforms in the world.

The news comes shortly after Flytrex unveiled the Sky2, its next-generation delivery drone with an industry-leading 8.8 lb payload capacity, which will be assembled at the new Pilot Point facility. The nearly 8,000 square foot facility includes a closed warehouse as well as a secure outdoor area for test flights.

It is fully equipped to handle drone assembly, ongoing maintenance, and pre-production flight testing – enabling Flytrex to quickly add new drones to its service area and expand its footprint.

Currently staffed by 20 local employees, the facility is on pace to grow to a team of 50 and annual production capacity of roughly 1,000 drones as new delivery sites come online across the metroplex.

The move aligns with a broader industry and policy shift toward American-made drone systems. In June 2025, the White House signed an executive order directing federal agencies to prioritize drones manufactured in the United States and calling for a stronger domestic drone industrial base.

The facility also positions Flytrex uniquely in the competitive drone delivery landscape. While other operators manufacture their fleets out of state and ship drones to their markets, Flytrex will assemble, test, and maintain its aircraft in the same metro area where it operates.

The manufacturing facility is a key aspect of Flytrex’s expansion plans for its DFW operations. In May, the company will open a new delivery site in Rowlett, which will expand Flytrex’s service area in DFW to serve nearly 200,000 people.

An additional five to seven sites are expected to come online in the second and third quarters of 2026, with the company targeting 60 delivery sites across the DFW metro by mid-2027 – expanding Flytrex’s reach to about five million DFW residents.

“Dallas-Fort Worth is the proving ground for the future of drone delivery at scale,” said Amit Regev, co-founder and CEO of Flytrex.

“Opening this facility is about more than capacity – it’s about putting down roots. Our strategy is to build a manufacturing and maintenance presence in every major market we enter, so the entire supply chain, from assembly to last-mile delivery, is local. That’s how we scale responsibly and sustainably.”

The new manufacturing facility comes at a time of growing momentum for Flytrex. Earlier this year, the company unveiled the Sky2, its next-generation delivery drone with an industry-leading 8.8 lb payload capacity.

Flytrex is one of only four drone delivery providers in the US with FAA authorization for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations.

It has partnered with both DoorDash and Uber Eats – with Uber Eats making its first-ever investment in drone delivery as part of the partnership.

And alongside Alphabet’s Wing, Flytrex pioneered the first shared airspace framework, enabling autonomously coordinated flight paths to serve overlapping communities.
