Rollo Robotics secures €3.7m pre-seed round led by FoodLabs and Prototype to mature monowheel technology

January 9, 2026 by Sam Francis

Rollo Robotics, the Estonian deep-tech startup pioneering the world’s first stable autonomous monowheel security robot, has raised €3.7 million in pre-seed funding.

The round was led by Berlin-based FoodLabs and frontier tech venture capital company Prototype, with support from Enterprise Estonia’s RUP programme.

The investment follows the company’s emergence from stealth. Rollo Robotics was founded in 2025 by Arno Kütt (the visionary behind Cleveron) and Sander Sebastian Agur.

The funding will be used to mature Rollo’s proprietary gyroscopic stabilization technology and transition the company from advanced R&D towards full-scale commercial production.

Engineering a new category of mobility

While the robotics industry has long relied on multi-wheeled platforms, Rollo Robotics has successfully mastered the “stability paradox” of the monowheel.

By utilising high-frequency sensor fusion and proprietary balance control, the Rollo security robot offers a slim, agile profile capable of navigating tight urban spaces and complex industrial corridors where traditional robots fail.

Sander Sebastian Agur, co-founder of Rollo Robotics, says: “Mastering the physics of a stable monowheel is a milestone for autonomous mobility and the entire robotics sector.

“With the backing of FoodLabs and Prototype, two investors who are at the heart of the European deep-tech ecosystem, we have the resources to bring this technology to the global security market. Our goal is to make autonomous patrolling more cost-efficient, less intrusive, and significantly more versatile by creating a modern robotic platform.”

Strategic support from Germany’s tech ecosystem

The partnership with FoodLabs and Prototype provides Rollo Robotics with a strategic bridge to the German industrial and technology markets.

FoodLabs is an early-stage VC and venture studio rooted in Europe, partnering with founders to build the industrial backbone of the future food system – from SynBio and consumer products to hardware, robotics, and deep-tech infrastructure.

Prototype is a technical solo-GP VC led by Andreas Klinger, investing first checks into Europe’s most ambitious frontier tech founders. Beyond dealmaking, Prototype is the force behind EU-INC, a policy movement supporting startups, and a YouTube channel promoting European founder identity and ambition.

“Western companies are facing rapidly growing hybrid threats to their physical infrastructure. Securing these assets with scalable, autonomous, robotic platforms such as Rollo is essential right now and a gigantic market of the future,” says Andreas Klinger of Prototype.

“Rollo Robotics is a prime example of the world-class engineering coming out of Estonia,” said Julius Strauss of FoodLabs. “Arno and Sander have identified a massive efficiency gap in the security sector. We are proud to support them as they mature this monowheel platform and prepare for mass production.”

The road to market

The €3.7m pre-seed round will facilitate two key milestones:

  1. Technological maturation: Hardening all systems to ensure peak performance in extreme weather and high-traffic environments.
  2. Production readiness: Scaling the supply chain and optimising components to meet demand generated by early pilot programmes.

“We have spent years rethinking how things move through the world,” added Arno Kütt, co-founder. “With this funding, we are taking the final step in turning a breakthrough engineering concept into a reliable tool for the global security industry.”
