Stellantis partners with Nvidia, Uber and Foxconn to strengthen its global robotaxis strategy

Stellantis has announced a new collaboration with Nvidia, Uber Technologies, and Foxconn to explore the joint development and future deployment of Level 4 (driverless) autonomous vehicles for robotaxis services worldwide.

This initiative marks a major step forward in Stellantis’ global robotaxi strategy, following the recently announced agreement with Pony.ai to test autonomous vehicles in Europe.

Together, these efforts position Stellantis as a key player in the transition to safe, efficient, and sustainable autonomous mobility.

Shaping the mobility of the future

The partner companies plan to combine their strengths: Stellantis’ global expertise in vehicle engineering and manufacturing, Nvidia’s autonomous driving software and AI computing, Foxconn’s electronics and systems integration capabilities, and Uber’s leadership in operating ride-hailing services, to explore a new generation of Level 4 autonomous vehicles.

This collaboration will leverage Stellantis’ AV-Ready platforms – specifically the K0 light commercial vehicle and the STLA Small – incorporating the Nvidia DRIVE AGX Hyperion 10 autonomous vehicle architecture, including the safety-certified Nvidia DriveOS operating system and the complete Nvidia DRIVE AV (NDAS) software designed for Level 4 autonomy.

Stellantis AV-Ready platforms are designed for maximum flexibility to adapt to multiple passenger and enterprise mobility uses.

Uber plans to deploy Stellantis autonomous vehicles in select cities worldwide, starting with 5,000 units, with initial operations beginning in the United States. Pilot programs and testing are expected to ramp up over the next few years, with production slated to begin in 2028.

Roles and responsibilities

Stellantis will design, develop and produce autonomous vehicles based on its Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) and STLA Small AV-Ready platforms, integrating Nvidia DRIVE AV software to enable Level 4 driverless capabilities.

Nvidia will provide its Nvidia DRIVE AV software, including L4 Parking and L4 Driving features based on the Nvidia DRIVE AGX Hyperion 10 architecture.

Foxconn will collaborate with Stellantis on hardware and systems integration.

Uber will operate robotaxis services, expanding its fleet with Stellantis vehicles integrating Nvidia DRIVE AV software.

Stellantis’ AV-Ready platforms are designed to support Layer 4 capabilities through technology upgrades that efficiently integrate all key components, including system redundancies, advanced sensor suites, and high-performance computing, into a flexible and scalable architecture.

The result is one of the industry’s most competitive platforms, optimized for security, reliability, and total cost of ownership for service providers.

What the leaders say

Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber , says: “Nvidia is at the forefront of the AI ​​era and is fully leveraging this innovation to deploy Level 4 autonomy at scale, with Stellantis among the first to integrate this technology for Uber.

“We are excited to collaborate with Stellantis to bring thousands of autonomous vehicles to our customers worldwide.”

Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia, says: “Level 4 autonomy is not just an important milestone for the automotive industry, it’s a leap forward in AI.

“The vehicle becomes a robot capable of seeing, perceiving, planning, and driving with superhuman precision.

“By combining Stellantis’ global reach with Nvidia DRIVE and integrating Foxconn’s systems, we are creating a new category of dedicated robotaxi fleets, making transportation safer, more accessible, and more affordable for everyone.”

Young Liu, president of Foxconn, says: “Autonomous mobility is a strategic priority in Foxconn’s electric vehicle program.

“Strategic partnerships and the combined strengths of Nvidia, Stellantis, and Uber are accelerating the deployment of Level 4 robotaxis technology, with Foxconn providing high-performance computing and sensor integration to enable global deployment.”

More about the agreement

The memorandum of understanding establishes the framework for future agreements concerning technological development, licensing, production, and vehicle supply. Each company retains the option to pursue further collaborations in the field of autonomous driving.

This new initiative complements Stellantis’ recent partnership with Pony.ai, announced earlier this month, to co-develop and test level 4 autonomous vehicles in Europe – a first step towards the deployment of robotaxis services on European roads.
