Fraunhofer designs robotic production system that is ‘as versatile as a Swiss Army knife’

The Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology has designed a new robotic production system that it says is “as versatile as a Swiss Army knife”.

Fraunhofer says the system’s features and benefits include:

  • it is utilization-optimized;
  • flexibly arranged production modules equipped via driverless transport systems which can manufacture a variety of products;
  • a production planning and control system that can flexibly allocate these modules;
  • segmentation and intelligent distribution of manufacturing tasks; and
  • possible to produce large-size components in small facilities.

Industrial components giant Nidec opens new factory in India

Nidec Machine Tool Corporation has built a new factory for Nidec India Precision Tools, the company’s cutting tool manufacturer and seller in Ranipet of India’s Tamil Nadu State, and started production in early July.

The new factory, with its production capacity 1.5 times the company’s current manufacturing capability, will produce hob cutters, pinion cutters, and other cutting tools.

Realtime Robotics raises $9.5 million in additional funding

Realtime Robotics, a developer of collision-free autonomous motion planning for industrial robots, today announced that it has secured an additional $9.5 million in funding from Shinhan GIB and Kyobo Life Insurance.

Driven by the strong response to its RapidPlan industrial robotics motion control and collision avoidance software, Realtime will use this additional investment to drive further product enhancements, incorporate feedback from customers and partners, and scale to support additional go-to-market efforts.

RapidPlan reduces the annual costs of robotic automation by two-thirds and makes the robot programming process up to 5x faster, all while eliminating collisions and removing the majority of manual, time-consuming adjustments.
