Top Swiss brain doctors install HPE supercomputer to help them read people’s minds

July 13, 2018 by Sam Francis

One of Switzerland’s top universities has selected the Hewlett Packard Enterprise supercomputing system for its work in the area of neuroscience, which means looking inside brains.

Head doctors at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne will initially be using HPE’s new supercomputer for simulation-based research, analysis, and visualization, to advance the understanding of what they describe as the “mammalian brain”.

But the bonce specialists could easily scale up the system to analyze human brains and eavesdrop on people’s thoughts and eventually be used to control their actions, which has been shown to be the ambition of each and every megalomaniacal mad scientist in science fiction history.  [Read more…] about Top Swiss brain doctors install HPE supercomputer to help them read people’s minds

People and digitisation work together in a new manufacturing environment, says industrial measurement technology provider Camille Bauer

Swiss industry contributes significantly to the country’s innovation, full employment and competitiveness, according to Federal Councillor Johann Schneider-Ammann.

The company says Switzerland’s manufacturing base is “indispensable”, but adds that industry must seize on the opportunities of digitisation.

Camille Bauer Metrawatt, based in Wohlen in the Swiss canton of Aargau, says it is following precisely this objective, by building on its strength, namely the competence of company’s internal workforce.  [Read more…] about Camille Bauer says it’s strengthening Switzerland’s manufacturing base through digitisation

It’s not one of the most famous exhibitions in the world, and not the biggest, but that’s probably appropriate for EPHJ, because it’s all about small things, or – more accurately – what’s called the “microtechnology” sector.

Microtechnology includes such things as watchmaking, jewellery making, and precision instrumentation for medicine, all of which are relatively large business sectors in Switzerland, where EPHJ is being held, on 20-23 June 2017 – Geneva, to be exact.

Now in its 16th year, the event is described as “an unmissable event for high-precision manufacturers, with exhibitors from the worlds of watchmaking and jewellery, microtechnology and medtech”.  [Read more…] about Microtechnology exhibition to showcase innovations in watchmaking and medicine
