Harnessing the Power of the Atmosphere for a Sustainable Tomorrow

Water Crisis: The Rising Global Challenge

Water scarcity has rapidly escalated into a global challenge, with approximately 2.2 billion people lacking safe drinking water access as of 2021.

Traditional water sources are strained, and the need for innovative, sustainable solutions is more pressing than ever. Enter hydropanels: a technology that is setting the pace for a revolution in the water supply industry. [Read more…] about Hydropanels: A Revolution in Residential Water Supply

Robot-based automation: 3 tips for a time and cost-efficient implementation

April 29, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Why no-code and low-code tools have become indispensable in robotics

Using robots is almost always worthwhile for companies. They can reduce labor costs, relieve employees, and make production more flexible – because the required batch sizes are becoming smaller and production processes more individual.

In addition, a robot or cobot offers another major advantage: it can work without breaks and fatigue, thereby increasing product quality and reducing scrap.

With modern robot systems, almost all processes can now be automated. Usually, robots take over simple, dirty, monotonous, physically demanding, or even dangerous tasks.

However, with the right hardware and, above all, software, very complex or particularly demanding tasks, so-called “Advanced Robotics” applications, can also be solved. Examples of this include the assembly of flexible and bendable components such as cables, wires, or hoses or force-controlled surface processing. Scythe Robotics unveils its first open source CANopen stack

April 6, 2023 by David Edwards

Scythe Robotics, a developer of commercial-grade autonomous solutions for the professional landscaping industry, has unveiled its first open source release.

CANfetti is a CANopen compliant stack developed to overcome the limitations of existing libraries.

Written and refined over the past several years by Scythe’s firmware and software teams, CANfetti significantly lowers the barrier to entry with an open source, easy to use, and production-grade library for robust CANopen communications. 4 Advantages of Using an Open Source LMS

October 8, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Hosted platforms for eLearning courses are extremely tempting for what they offer but they come at a price and are a poor choice for people who are ambitious about creating online courses. If you are a regular creator and pursue it passionately, try an open-source LMS instead.

To build any software, one has to work with codes, just like the DNA in humans. When the code is publicly available to everyone, it is referred to as open source and that is why anyone with programming skills can inspect or edit the codes by directly going into them.

But open-source is more than that. It is also a broader culture built on collaboration, transparency, and peer-to-peer sharing. [Read more…] about 4 Advantages of Using an Open Source LMS

General Motors and Red Hat partner to develop software-defined vehicles

August 10, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Automotive giant General Motors and open source software provider Red Hat have formed a partnership to “help advance software-defined vehicles at the edge”.

The companies expect to expand an ecosystem of innovation around the Red Hat In-Vehicle Operating System, which provides a functional-safety certified Linux operating system foundation intended for the ongoing evolution of GM’s Ultifi software platform.

The collaboration between Red Hat and GM is a significant moment in the convergence of the transportation and technology industries, with Red Hat’s cloud-native, enterprise-grade open source operating system accelerating the development of GM’s software-defined vehicle programs following Ultifi’s initial launch. 5 Benefits of Green Alternatives to Fossil Fuel Generators

May 2, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Having a backup power source for your home during power outages or long road trips is essential for keeping you safe and connected.

And while generators have long relied on gas and fuel, there’s no reason to keep using generators that rely on harmful toxic fossil fuels.

That’s especially true when you get more from one that uses greener alternative energy sources. [Read more…] about 5 Benefits of Green Alternatives to Fossil Fuel Generators

Airbus boss backs hydrogen airplanes as the ‘ultimate solution’

February 18, 2022 by Mark Allinson

The CEO of Airbus, currently the largest aircraft manufacturer in the world, says he believes hydrogen-powered airplanes are the “ultimate solution” to the unfair criticism of the aerospace industry as a planet-polluting monster.

The World Wildlife Fund says the aviation industry is “one of the fastest-growing sources of the greenhouse gas emissions driving global climate change”, adding that air travel is “currently the most carbon intensive activity an individual can make”.

These things have been true for many decades, but with completely crazy extreme weather systems attacking different parts of the world on an almost weekly basis over the past couple of years, the search for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) has taken on a new urgency. Ubuntu could force itself to look at that creepy-looking canine robot CyberDog

December 2, 2021 by Mark Allinson

Canonical, the company which manages the Ubuntu open-source operating system, is reportedly planning to deepen its understanding of a creepy-looking canine robot called CyberDog – probably giving itself nightmares in the process.

CyberDog is a quadrupedal, experimental, open-source robot created by Chinese mobile phone giant Xiaomi. This canine robot is eerily similar to the other, more famous and even more terrifying robot dog produced by Boston Dynamics. That one – called Spot – is also open source.

Xiaomi says its aim in releaasing CyberDog is to “improve the robot development environment and promote the development of the robot industry”. Xiaomi says it has a clear vision for its product. [Read more…] about Ubuntu could force itself to look at that creepy-looking canine robot CyberDog

Panasonic Robot and Welding expands collaboration with Claas Saulgau

November 22, 2021 by David Edwards

Panasonic Robot and Welding System Solutions, a business unit of Panasonic Factory Solutions, and Claas Saulgau GmbH, a producer of agricultural machinery with over 100 years of experience, say they have “intensified” their existing collaboration.

Claas Saugau is extending its production facilities with three new welding systems with a total of five Panasonic welding robots of the latest generation and technology.

Frederik Kahlbau, key account manager for Claas Saulgau, says: “We delivered the first Panasonic welding system to Claas Saulgau GmbH in 2014. [Read more…] about Panasonic Robot and Welding expands collaboration with Claas Saulgau
