How robots are contributing to the metal finishing industry

January 25, 2019 by Carina Perez

The effective use of robotics is now prevalent in many types of manufacturing and industrial applications, and metal finishing is no different.

Robots can perform many of the tasks conducted by humans, and they can usually complete them a lot faster and with fewer glitches.

As the execution of robotics-based metal finishing processes creates the need for substantially advanced budgeting, companies usually experience a fast return on investment in the form of increased operating efficiency and lower cost.  [Read more…] about How robots are contributing to the metal finishing industry

An ‘App Store’ for robots? It’s coming and it’s a game-changer

December 19, 2018 by Sam Francis

By Kyle Fazzari, software engineer and roboticist at Canonical, the company behind the Ubuntu open-source operating system

We are all familiar with Apple’s app store. It is an easily navigable place to download the latest features available, at the touch of our fingertips. Now imagine this same concept, but for robotics.

A growing industry, robotics isn’t just a buzzword – it’s becoming a transformative technology.

Whether robotics track down deadly species of starfish responsible for coral reefs destruction, or provide agricultural support for sustainable crops, access to an app store could open up an array of alternative revenue streams for robotics startups – functionality exchanged for a fee.  [Read more…] about An ‘App Store’ for robots? Insight: Building the future-proofed robot

ubuntu-powered robot 3 copy

By Kyle Fazzari, software engineer and roboticist at Canonical, the company behind the Ubuntu operating system

There’s no such thing as an overnight success. Time and again, it’s the desire to tweak, modify and update which separates a great idea from real-world achievements.

With Apple as the first business to cross the $1 trillion threshold, there’s no better example of this than the iPhone. As a singular product it still doesn’t boast the best camera, the most storage, or fastest processor on the market. So where does the secret to longevity lie? And what can robotics learn from Apple’s flagship product?  [Read more…] about Insight: Building the future-proofed robot

Coco Chanel to Robo Chanel?

October 12, 2018 by Anna

Danica Kragic, a former catwalk model who is now a professor in robotics, says the idea that the fashion industry can be fully automated is not one that looks like will happen any time soon…

The most futuristic thing at this year’s London Fashion Week – robots! With California-based Honee’s recent partnership announcement with OhmniLabs robotics company for a model with nerves of actual steel, tech and fashion are becoming more intertwined than ever.

Having walked the catwalks at Stockholm Fashion Week, independent robotics expert at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and IEEE member Professor Danica Kragic believes that the technology and fashion industries are on an inevitable and exciting collision course.  [Read more…] about Coco Chanel to Robo Chanel?

Robot co-workers plug industry-wide skills gap, boost efficiency, automate mundane work, and don’t get involved in office politics, according to new report

With employers struggling to find people with the skills they need, even for entry-level jobs, industrial workers are increasingly seeing the benefits of working with robots, rather than humans, to improve productivity and relieve the pressures they are under.

This is one of the findings of the latest research from Epicor Software Corporation, a global provider of industry-specific enterprise software to promote business growth.

According to the research, which questioned around 2,500 business respondents in 14 countries, staff are aware of the many benefits of working alongside robots.  [Read more…] about Employers and employees alike ‘welcome robots’, says Epicor
