John Deere has been a consistent force in the agricultural automation space, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with connected machines, autonomous tractors, and AI-powered harvesters.

John Deere reveals new autonomous machines and technology at CES

John Deere has revealed several new autonomous machines at CES 2025 to support customers in agriculture, construction, and commercial landscaping.

Building on Deere’s autonomous technology first revealed at CES 2022, the company’s second-generation autonomy kit combines advanced computer vision, AI, and cameras to help the machines navigate their environments.

Cyngn scales up commercialization of autonomous mobile robots

Cyngn has revealed several commercial and technological accomplishments from the first quarter of 2024, including valuable progress with renowned brands like John Deere and Rivian, the expansion of its distribution network, and key collaborations aimed at advancing the company’s artificial intelligence and robotics technologies.

As Cyngn progresses through 2024, the company says it remains focused on scaling to capitalize on opportunities with major heavy manufacturing, automotive, and defense corporations.

Sabanto system makes John Deere tractors autonomous

Sabanto says its Steward automation system now has compatibility with John Deere 5075E tractors.

Steward is described as “an advanced technology platform that enables tractors to run autonomously”.

John Deere adds more automation to combine harvester range

John Deere has announced updates for Model Year 2020 S700 Series Combines, which include upgrades to improve automation, data management and residue placement.

Combine Advisor and HarvestSmart have been updated to further automate these machines.

Combine Advisor uses ActiveVision cameras and sensors to identify changes in crop conditions and automatically adjust the combine to maintain the operator’s settings for optimal performance in varying conditions.

John Deere introduces next generation of construction simulators

John Deere is rolling out its new construction simulators – further bridging the gap between the classroom and jobsite.

The modular update outfits the new John Deere simulators to one of six machine types: backhoe, crawler dozer, excavator, wheel loader, joystick-controlled motor grader and fingertip control motor grader.

“The next generation of John Deere simulators builds on a state-of-the-art technology that teaches machine controls, hand-eye coordination, safe operation, and operator technique,” said Jon Goodney, manager learning technology, John Deere Construction & Forestry.

John Deere Power Products celebrates milestone machine

John Deere recently marked a manufacturing milestone with the completion of the 5-millionth unit of riding lawn equipment built at the Power Products factory in Greeneville, Tenn.

Originally founded as a small, satellite factory, Power Products is now the highest volume facility for John Deere and is responsible for manufacturing many of the iconic green lawn mowers sold by the brand.

“The production of the 5-millionth machine is a significant milestone for the Power Products team, John Deere and our loyal customers,” said Jeff Hollett, factory manager.

John Deere to buy lettuce farming robot maker Blue River Technology

John Deere, the farming machinery giant, has reached a deal to buy lettuce farming robot maker Blue River Technology for $305 million. 

Blue River also provides a range of other technology solutions – such as a weed killing machine, drone sensing and phenotyping solutions – to the precision agriculture sector, principally using machine learning.

The lettuce farming robot is called LettuceBot, and is one of the company’s newer products.
