ABB charges Hannover Messe’s first emission-free shuttle service

Visitors to Hannover Messe 2019 have been experiencing electric transportation in action with the installation of the fair’s first sustainable hybrid electric bus service.

Running from 1 to 5 April, Hannover Messe attracts some 220,000 visitors from around the world, this year, visitors are being transported around the site on a new emission-free hybrid shuttle bus, powered by ABB’s high-power chargers.

ABB‘s High-Power 300PD OppCharge system powers a Volvo Hybrid bus shuttling guests around the world’s biggest exhibition space, which spans 26 halls and pavilions.

Bosch achieves sales in the billions with Industry 4.0

Over the past four years, Bosch has made more than 1.5 billion euros with Industry 4.0 applications. As early as 2022, Bosch wants to generate annual sales of over a billion euros with Industry 4.0.

The company is presenting the factory of the future at Hannover Messe: autonomous transport vehicles deliver components to digital workspaces, robotics solutions support workers in manufacturing, and quality inspection is performed with the help of artificial intelligence (AI).

Bosch recognised the potential of Industry 4.0 early on: the company began connecting manufacturing and logistics in 2012.

Siemens leads industry to the next level of digital transformation

At the centre of its booth, Siemens is using a model for the automotive industry to show how the unique portfolio of industrial software and automation technology seamlessly connects the virtual and real worlds.

Using cloud and Edge-based data analyses together with other future-oriented technologies, such as additive manufacturing and autonomous manufacturing systems, creates new possibilities in the areas of efficiency and flexibility.

German Chancellor and Swedish PM visit ABB ‘factory of the future’ in Hannover

German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven were given a glimpse into the factory of the future by ABB CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer

Mr Spiesshofer explained how a production cell would work in the factory of the future, where robots will collaborate with humans.

They were shown how two-armed YuMi robots together with single-armed YuMi put together wristwatches individually with unparalleled precision, using the transport system from ABB’s newly formed Robotics & Discrete Automation business.

Standards set in industrial cloud communication

Cloud computing has gained acceptance across the board in the last few years with an increasing variety of solutions from different providers.

The problem: Different specifications and incompatible interfaces increase the effort and make the connection across cloud limits very complex.

Harting is therefore taking part in an initiative for a uniform standard for cross-cloud communication. The results will be presented at the Hannover Messe 2019.
