BMW partners with Amazon to integrate Alexa artificial intelligence into its cars

BMW is to integrated Amazon’s Alexa artificial intelligence into its in-car systems.

Amazon Alexa will be available in BMW and Mini vehicles starting in mid-2018.

Comau unveils logistics robot

Comau has launched a new logistics robot which looks similar to the growing number of autonomous platforms currently making their way into warehouses the world over. 

Comau’s machine is called Agile 1500, and the company says it is the first model within the Comau automated guided vehicles platform.

IAM Robotics awarded patent for warehouse robot

IAM Robotics, a Pittsburgh startup that develops and sells autonomous material handling robots, has been awarded what the company says is a “key patent” relating to its robotics technology for logistics.

The patent will be issued on October 10, 2017 as US Patent No. 9,785,911.

ThyssenKrupp tests TeleRetail robots for elevator maintenance logistics

ThyssenKrupp is testing delivery robots as part of a research project.

The company’s huge elevator business division is evaluating TeleRetail delivery robots to make elevator maintenance safer and more efficient.

Renesas Electronics India, a subsidiary of Renesas Electronics Singapore, has showcased its latest solutions for the automotive and smart cities segments at Electronica India.

Toyota shows off its progress in robotics, autonomous cars and artificial intelligence

Toyota Research Institute has been demonstrating its progress in the development of automated driving technology and other project work to the investor community this week.

Dr Gill Pratt, CEO of TRI, says: “In the last few months, we have rapidly accelerated our pace in advancing Toyota’s automated driving capabilities with a vision of saving lives, expanding access to mobility, and making driving more fun and convenient.

Alibaba to invest $15 billion into robotic logistics infrastructure

Alibaba is planning to invest $15 billion into developing a robotic logistics infrastructure, according to the Wall Street Journal. 

Alibaba is said to be the world’s largest e-commerce company, mainly concentrating on the business-to-business sector rather than retail, but until now, it has relied on outside companies to provide its logistics.

Delphi teams up with BlackBerry to develop autonomous driving platform

Delphi Automotive, a developer of autonomous driving technology, has entered into a commercial partnership agreement with BlackBerry to provide the operating system for its autonomous driving system.

Delphi and BlackBerry QNX will collaborate to bolster software performance and safety in their operating system to advance autonomous driving technology.

Chinese search giant Baidu launches $1.5 billion fund for autonomous car tech

Baidu – China’s equivalent of Google – has launched a $1.5 billion fund for autonomous car technology.

The company’s newly established Apollo Fund will invest in 100 autonomous driving projects in the next three years.
