Toyota has launched a tiny robot small enough to fit into the palm of your hand. 

The KiRobo Mini is clearly the company’s way of taking a break from making cars, and is now on sale in Japan.

Universal Robots puts on a show in Singapore for people interested in its technologies

The Singapore business unit of Universal Robots has put on what it called a “roadshow” for people interested in its collaborative robots and associated technologies.

Established a couple of years ago as Universal’s Asia-Pacific headquarters, the Singapore branch has been enthusiastic in its work in promoting the company’s machines to the local market.

Denso and Symbio to establish technology innovation center in Finland

Denso, one of the world’s largest suppliers of robotics and automation technologies, is partnering with software company Symbio to establish a technology innovation centre in Finland.

Denso, the main supplier to Toyota and one of the leading automotive component manufacturers in general, says the innovation center in Finland is a joint enterprise based at Symbio’s premises in Espoo, Finland.

Symbio is a technology research and development company with expertise in robotics, automation and internet of things systems.

ABB and Kawasaki to partner on collaborative robot automation

Two industrial titans – one from Europe and the other from Asia – have agreed a partnership relating to the development of collaborative robot automation.

The two companies – ABB and Kawasaki – are both industrial giants with wide-ranging business activities, and collaborative robots are actually a relatively small part of their respective operations.

It’s noticeable to us here at the website because we have received many more press releases and articles talking about the event.

Heidenhain to unveil new rotary encoders for robots

Heidenhain will be presenting new encoders designed specifically for the requirements of the robotics, medical technology, and drive technology industries at the upcoming SPS IPC Drives show. 

The company says the drives offer “significantly higher accuracy for robots”.

Wibu Systems to launch ‘world’s smallest dongle with flash memory’ at SPS

Wibu Systems says it will launch the world’s smallest dongle with flash memory at this year’s SPS IPC Drives event, which starts next week.

The CmStick / BMC, the latest generation of Wibu-Systems’ hardware elements for the secure licensing of digital know-how, is one of the five nominees for the 2017 Automation Awards, the most prestigious prize to be won in the automation industry.

Omron says its table tennis-playing robot is first of its kind in the world

Omron has made further advancements in its table tennis robot, Forpheus, which the company continues to develop further each year to showcase in an easy-to-understand manner the evolution of its “Sensing & Control + Think” technology and the human-machine harmony that it targets with this. 

Omron says it has now pushed the evolution of Forpheus into becoming a robot with which beginners through to advanced players can enjoy table tennis rallies, adding serve functionality and smash-handling functionality.

Habey launches alternative to Raspberry Pi board for development of industrial robots

Habey, a developer of single board computers of a variety of types and form factors, has launched what it says is an alternative to the Raspberry Pi board for developing industrial robotic arms. 

Habey says its “extremely small” Pico-ITX EMB-2230 offers all of the features of its previous product, the EMB-3200, but with greater adaptability for I/O options, power input, and touchscreen display output, through an integrated 40-pin expansion header.
