XPO Logistics expands last mile service in Spain to meet increase in online orders of large products

XPO Logistics, a leading global provider of transportation and logistics solutions has expanded its last mile service for bulky and heavy goods in Spain, as consumers turn to e-commerce.

The company makes an estimated 4,500 daily deliveries to all parts of Spain through its national last mile network, with the highest demand in the regions of Madrid, Barcelona, Andalucía and Levante.

XPO launched its last mile service in Spain in 2018, providing consistent, nationwide home deliveries through 60 distribution sites linked by cutting-edge technology.

The service includes options for the assembly and installation of appliances, large home electronics, exercise equipment, furniture and other products, as well as the removal of old items.

The company is the last mile leader for bulky and heavy goods in North America, with industry-leading consumer satisfaction levels.

The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the e-commerce boom, adding to the number of large products purchased online.

According to UNO Logistica, a leading logistics and transport trade organization, e-commerce deliveries in Spain increased by up to 50 per cent during the lockdown. Nearly one-third of Spaniards surveyed indicated that they would purchase more goods online.

Massimo Marsili, managing director, transport – Iberia, XPO Logistics, says: “Our last mile network in Spain has the capacity and expertise to safely manage the higher demand for our services, which has tripled in recent months.

“Our specialist teams are doing an outstanding job of meeting the needs of Spanish consumers in these challenging times. We will continue to support our retail and e-commerce customers with safe and reliable home deliveries.”

XPO has digitized the consumer experience, offering automated WhatsApp, text messages, IVR and phone options for scheduling.

Consumers can check shipment status, change a delivery date, time or location, or request delivery to a neighbour. XPO uses technology based on machine learning algorithms to organize delivery routes that are more efficient and environmentally sustainable.
