Siemens completes acquisition of Mendex

October 4, 2018 by Anna

Siemens has closed the acquisition of Mendix, eight weeks after the transaction was announced as part of the company’s Vision 2020+ strategy.

As enterprises invest to digitalise their operations, demand for business applications is growing significantly faster than the capacity of IT organisations to deliver them.

This gap between business demand for smart applications and lack of adequate developer talent has created unprecedented demand for low-code, high productivity platforms.

Mentor Veloce hardware emulation platform now available on Amazon Web Services

July 30, 2018 by David Edwards

Mentor veloce strato

Mentor, a Siemens business, says the company’s Veloce Strato platform is now a customer-validated cloud computing emulation platform directly accessible on-demand on Amazon Web Services.

The Veloce Strato platform offers data center options, such as hardware emulation on-premises, off-premises and on AWS. It’s a computing system often used by chip designers.

This new data center use model extends the availability of hardware emulation across a broad range of deployment scenarios to ensure that all semiconductor companies have access to hardware emulation for system-on-chip and system-of-systems verification.  [Read more…] about Mentor Veloce hardware emulation platform now available on Amazon Web Services

Siemens extends HMI range for industrial applications

July 23, 2018 by Anna

Siemens has extended its system family of all-round protected HMI (Human Machine Interface) devices for machine-related, cabinet-free visualisation and automation.

High-performance Simatic Thin Client PRO operator terminals with 15, 19 and 22 inch screen sizes and all-round IP65 degree of protection are new to the range.

Like all devices in the PRO series, the new Thin Clients can be extended by mountable components (extension units) – such as mounting adapter, keyboard tray and keyboard.

Siemens report urges cities to plan now for arrival of autonomous vehicles

July 18, 2018 by Anna

smart city india

The advent of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV) has the potential to cause major and disruptive changes to cities worldwide, according to a report launched by Siemens.

The report, Cities in the Driving Seat stresses the need for cities to plan early and tackle the issue in a wider context of mobility transformations.

Launched recently at the World Cities Summit in Singapore, the study explores the interdependencies between urban development, public transportation policies, power supply, pollution and the increasing share of CAV in city traffic.

Siemens and HP expand collaboration for industrial 3D printed parts

June 27, 2018 by Anna

HP Inc. and Siemens have expanded their longstanding collaboration to enable even more advanced functionality across a broader set of Siemens PLM software to change the way users can design and manufacture with HP’s Multi Jet Fusion 3D printing technology.

With the latest releases, Siemens, a leader in digial innovation software, and HP, the global industry leader in 3D printing, will enable users of Siemens’ NX™ software and Solid Edge software to design and produce full colour 3D-printed parts.

HP’s Jet Fusion 3D 300/500 series is the industry’s first 3D printing solution for the production of engineering-grade, functional parts in full colour, black or white – with voxel-level control – in a fraction of the time of other solutions, it is claimed.

Samsung certifies Mentor Tessent tools for 8LPP process

June 26, 2018 by Anna

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., has certified Mentor‘s Tessent products for Samsung Foundry’s 8-nanometer (nm) LPP (Low Power Plus) process.

These tools provide design and test time improvements for very large designs targeting markets such as mobile communications, high-speed network/server computing, cryptocurrency, and autonomous driving.

Very large designs in today’s leading semiconductor devices can suffer from requiring large compute resources, and pattern-generation times that are too long or are being performed too late in the design flow.

Siemens acquires Austemper Design Systems to strengthen product lifecycle management offering

June 23, 2018 by David Edwards

austemper design 2 copy

Siemens has entered into an agreement to acquire Austin, Texas-based Austemper Design Systems, a startup software company that offers analysis, auto-correction and simulation technology.

This technology allows customers to test and harden integrated circuit designs for functional safety in applications such as automotive, industrial and aerospace systems where functional safety and high reliability are mandatory for compliance to safety standards like ISO 26262.

ICs in these applications require three types of functional safety verification:

  • for systemic faults;
  • malicious faults; and
  • random hardware faults.

The acquisition of Austemper will strengthen Siemens’ product lifecycle management software suite, much like Siemens’ acquisition of Mentor did. [Read more…] about Siemens acquires Austemper Design Systems to strengthen product lifecycle management offering
