Google Might Be the First to Put Real AI in a Robot Body

September 18, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Robot technology is moving forward, thanks to heroic efforts by Boston Dynamics and various robot vacuum companies. But it seems like a gap is opening up between what chatbots like Gemini, Claude an ChatGPT can do, and the capabilities of physical machines. The former are writing symphonies while the latter are struggling to stumble across an empty room.

Incredibly, Google engineers foresaw this problem nearly a decade ago. Boffins believed that the invention of the transformer would assist with artificial cognition and improve language models, but they didn’t think it would translate easily into physical activity.

“This problem is currently dogging the household appliance sector,” says Vacuum Wars, a company that is always looking for the best robot vacuum on the market. [Read more…] about Google Might Be the First to Put Real AI in a Robot Body

Naviq releases magnetic guide sensor to ‘enhance’ mobile robots path following

September 18, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Naviq is introducing the MTS160, a “state-of-the-art” magnetic guide sensor for mobile robots, featuring patented angle measurement capabilities with 1-degree precision and position accuracy within 1 mm.

This unique dual functionality provides exceptional orientation and positioning precision, significantly improving the navigation capabilities of mobile robotic systems.

Unlike traditional magnetic line-following sensors that only detect position along a single dimension, the MTS160’s unique angle detection allows robots to assess the curvature of the track. [Read more…] about Naviq releases magnetic guide sensor to ‘enhance’ mobile robots path following

Gessmann launches new autonomous mobile robot

September 11, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Gessmann says its new autonomous GESSbot Gb 350 “sets new standards” in intralogistics by optimising production processes through advanced automation. This autonomous mobile robot takes over human tasks, ensuring faster and more precise operations.

Gessmann prioritises not only the seamless integration of machines, production lines, and storage systems but also the smooth interaction between people and machines.

Automated Guided Vehicles are versatile in intralogistics, but these systems often rely on physically marked routes. The GESSbot Gb 350 stands out as it requires neither magnetic tracks nor complex environmental adaptations.

Promwad partners with Hilscher to develop ‘universal’ industrial communications platform

September 11, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Promwad, an electronics design house based in Germany, has collaborated with Hilscher, a technology and solution provider in industrial communication, to develop a pioneering universal robotics platform that addresses a critical problem faced by industrial robotics manufacturers using popular robotics platforms from Nvidia, Qualcomm, and other tech vendors.

The new platform, powered by the Hilscher netX communication controller, supports EtherCAT, PROFINET, and EtherNet/IP protocols and enables manufacturers to seamlessly integrate popular modules and ready-made servo drives with a wide range of industrial and consumer robots without the need for additional solutions, which the industrial robotics manufacturers face today.

The issue of integrating Nvidia Jetson, Nvidia Orin, or Qualcomm RB5 platforms into the existing industrial networks and components stems from the need for supplementary integration solutions to bridge the compatibility gaps. The problem leads to additional costs on hardware and complex software development, as well as a potentially diminished performance of the final robotic solution.

Bearings for Robot Arms: The Complete Guide

September 5, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Bearings assist in the movement of the robot’s arms. The movements would otherwise be jerky, inaccurate and unreliable without the function of these components.

These items though small helps reduce the force of friction between two or more parts whist moving making the robotic systems to be accurate and last longer.

Industrial robotics has been advancing with interdisciplinary knowledge of different engineering branches and the use of modern materials. Picking up the right bearing can transform the performance of the robot’s arms from increased velocity to increased durability. [Read more…] about Bearings for Robot Arms: The Complete Guide
