Robotic perception continues to evolve in the warehouse, says Exotec

December 18, 2024 by Anika Haque

AI and ML are helping warehouse robots better understand their environment and how to interact with it, helping them to operate more effectively

Robots continue to make their mark in the warehouse, working alongside humans, and as they evolve, so do their perception systems.

According to Exotec, the growth of AI and machine learning is playing an instrumental role in driving this improvement, as robots are continuing to adapt to their surroundings and fine-tune their operations.

Robotic perception is the ability of a robot to perceive, comprehend and reason about the environment in which it operates. Perception is the first step in robotic movement, enabling it to make correct decisions when complimenting or in partnership with humans in the warehouse. EDAP TMS publishes results of cancer treatment through robotic system

December 9, 2024 by Anika Haque

EDAP TMS, a provider of robotic energy-based therapies, has published the full results from the HIFI study in the prestigious, peer-reviewed journal, European Urology, which has the highest impact factor amongst scientific journals focused in urology.

The study evaluated HIFU versus radical prostatectomy (RP) as a first line treatment of localized prostate cancer. The paper is entitled “Whole-gland or Subtotal High-intensity Focused Ultrasound Versus Radical Prostatectomy: The Prospective, Noninferiority, Nonrandomized, HIFI Trial”, and is authored by Dr Guillaume Ploussard from Department of Urology, UROSUD, Clinique La Croix du Sud, France.

Professor Pascal Rischmann, principal investigator of the HIFI trial and senior author of the publication, says: “The publication of the HIFI study in European Urology will importantly serve to increase awareness amongst the global urology and patient community on how robotic HIFU technology is rapidly changing the treatment paradigm for patients with localized, early-stage prostate cancer. Virtual Incision and Sovato Health demonstrate remote robotic surgery system across 40,000 miles

December 3, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Virtual Incision, the developer of the miniaturized robotic-assisted MIRA Surgical System, and Sovato Health, a provider of remote surgery systems, say they have successfully completed a preclinical demonstration of nearly 40,000 miles combined distance.

Four surgeons performed a total of 20 procedures on porcine models as part of the remote capabilities test, representing approximately 2,000 miles for each procedure.

Francesco Maria Bianco, MD, from the University of Illinois Chicago, and Yanghee Woo, MD, Yasmin Zerhouni, MD, and Clayton Lau, MD, from City of Hope National Medical Center, leveraged the combined technology of Virtual Incision and Sovato to complete the remote cholecystectomy, colectomy, gastric mobilization/gastrostomy/primary closure, and nephrectomy procedures on porcine models.
