Artificial muscles propel a robotic leg to walk and jump

September 23, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Researchers at ETH Zurich and the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems have developed a robotic leg with artificial muscles. Inspired by living creatures, it jumps across different terrains in an agile and energy-efficient manner.

Inventors and researchers have been developing robots for almost 70 years. To date, all the machines they have built – whether for factories or elsewhere – have had one thing in common: they are powered by motors, a technology that is already 200 years old.

Even walking robots feature arms and legs that are powered by motors, not by muscles as in humans and animals. This in part suggests why they lack the mobility and adaptability of living creatures.

Cyngn modifies autonomous mobile robot to work outdoors

September 17, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Cyngn, a developer of autonomous vehicle technology, says its AI-powered autonomous driving solution, DriveMod, will now be able to operate in outdoor environments.

Organizations will be able to send the DriveMod Tugger on missions that go indoors and outdoors, giving facility managers even more opportunity to automate repetitive workflows and shift employees over to more interesting, higher-value tasks.

As modern warehouses and manufacturing complexes grow ever larger – many surpassing 200,000 square feet and spanning multiple buildings – the challenge of efficiently moving materials from point A to point B becomes increasingly complex. Technotrade and Briggs & Stratton provide power to agricultural robot built by Cronos

September 17, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Technotrade has partnered with Briggs & Stratton to provide a power solution for the newly developed Cronos Quadro, an autonomous agricultural robot developed by a Czech startup Cronos Machines.

Cronos was founded by Technotrade as an independent research and development unit, with a mission to change the agricultural industry with the development of highly intelligent machines and robotic solutions for automated farming and grounds maintenance.

In developing its latest multi-functional autonomous machine, that helps farmers increase labour efficiency and save costs, Cronos needed to find a unique power solution that could withstand the demands of everyday farming.

Systraplan shows off automatic tread booking with robot

September 17, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Faster extrusion speeds and the need for greater accuracy encouraged tyre manufacturers to replace manual loading with automatic tread booking systems. More and more booker loading systems have been installed to overcome the problems associated with manual loading.

Tread deformation is a good example of this. Improper handling can cause transverse and longitudinal deformation. In particular, the size and weight of truck treads make it difficult for operators to handle the treads properly and appropriately.

Automatic tread booking avoids the disadvantages associated with manual tread handling. [Read more…] about Systraplan shows off automatic tread booking with robot

Roborock launches ‘all-in-one’ robot that sweeps and mops

September 13, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Roborock, a provider of intelligent home robotics, has launched the intelligent sweeping and mopping all-in-one robot Roborock Qrevo Slim, equipped with an innovative 3D camera module for navigation and obstacle avoidance using the REAL3 Time-of-Flight (ToF) imager by Infineon Technologies.

Time of flight is the measurement of the time taken by an object, particle or wave to travel a distance through a medium.

The technology allows to reduce size and increase reliability. Compared to the body height of traditional sweeping and mopping robots of around 100 mm, the overall height of the Roborock Qrevo Slim is only 82 mm, allowing it to pass through lower and narrower spaces while providing high reliability.
