Forpheus, which Omron says is the world’s first robot table tennis tutor

Omron Automation will demo its wide-ranging innovations in robotics, sensing, control, safety, vision and more at the SAE World Congress Experience (WCX) this April in Detroit, USA..

One of the company’s key demos at WCX 2018 will feature the FH vision system, a powerful solution for high-speed inspection for automotive and electronic applications.

The LD Mobile Robot exhibit will show how self-navigating autonomous intelligent vehicle (AIV) can adapt to a wide variety of applications and payloads.

Omron Electronic Components Europe has launched a new series of dual in-line package switches with 18 models delivering what the company says is “improved reliability and usability”.

Andries De Bruin, senior European product marketing manager, Omron, says: “The new Omron A6FR series DIP switches are more convenient to configure with the finger, due to their piano style buttons, which is a welcome feature for most users.

Omron releases new ultra-thin tactile switch

Omron Electronic Components Europe is releasing a new ultra-thin sealed surface-mounting tactile switch rated at 1 million operations.

The new Omron B3SE delivers high durability with a minimum of 1 million operations, offering a long product life cycle. The tactile switch height of just 2mm contributes to the development of incredibly slim devices.

The button gives the user positive tactile feedback, contributing a quality feel to the user interface. With a surface-mounting pin type, it’s suitable for high-density mounting.

Ping pong robot comes to ATX West

Omron Automation will showcase Forpheus, the world’s first AI-equipped table tennis tutor, at Automation Technology Expo West (ATX West) in California, USA.

Visitors to Omron’s booth, #4395, at the Anaheim Convention Center will experience how Omron technology enables flexibility, traceability and creates the factory of the future through innovative solutions that are integrated, interactive and intelligent, says the company.

Omron inaugural booth at CES focuses on the harmony that can be achieved between humans and machines with interactive demonstrations showing how technological innovation can effectively meet business and societal challenges.

Omron to showcase Forpheus in company’s first appearance at CES

Omron will exhibit at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show for the first time.

Omron specialises in developing technologies in the categories of sensing, control, robotics and artificial intelligence, many examples of which will be on display at CES.

Omron to launch new condition-monitoring devices

Omron says it plans to launch a new range of condition-monitoring devices which will enable users to “visualize facility conditions not seen before”.

Omron says the four series of condition-monitoring devices will allow workers to monitor operational status in manufacturing sites.

They are:

  • motor condition-monitoring devices that predict a failure of three-phase induction motors;
  • power supplies equipped with networking capability that can predict the service life and failures of a power supply installed in a control panel;
  • flow sensors and pressure sensors that monitor hydraulic oil and cooling water used for press machines and molding machines; and
  • a smart condition-monitoring amplifier that accelerates IoT of existing analog sensors installed in facilities or machines.

Omron says its table tennis-playing robot is first of its kind in the world

Omron has made further advancements in its table tennis robot, Forpheus, which the company continues to develop further each year to showcase in an easy-to-understand manner the evolution of its “Sensing & Control + Think” technology and the human-machine harmony that it targets with this. 

Omron says it has now pushed the evolution of Forpheus into becoming a robot with which beginners through to advanced players can enjoy table tennis rallies, adding serve functionality and smash-handling functionality.
