Robotic drywall robot maker Canvas launches new machine for small spaces

June 27, 2024 by David Edwards

Canvas, the construction robotics company specializing in drywall finishing with its series of robotic “L4” and “L5” spray and sanding machines, has released its new product, the “1200CX”.

The company says that years of development and customer feedback have resulted in a compact, lightweight, and easily maneuverable machine that is highly versatile across project portfolios and enables customers with smaller spaces such as multi-family and tower construction projects to leverage Canvas machines. Ready Robotics ‘making robotics system design easier’ for non-programmers

May 24, 2023 by David Edwards

Robotics hardware traditionally requires programmers to deploy it. Ready Robotics wants to change that with its “no code” software aimed at people working in manufacturing who haven’t got programming skills.

The Columbus, Ohio, startup is a spinout of robotics research from Johns Hopkins University. Kel Guerin was a PhD candidate there leading this research when he partnered with Benjamin Gibbs, who was at Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures, to land funding and pursue the company, now led by Gibbs as CEO.

Guerin, who’s now chief innovation officer at the startup, says: “There was this a-ha moment where we figured out that we could take these types of visual languages that are very easy to understand and use them for robotics.” [Read more…] about Ready Robotics ‘making robotics system design easier’ for non-programmers

Construction robotics startup Canvas partners with USG to ‘transform drywall industry’

May 18, 2023 by David Edwards

Canvas, a construction robotics startup, has agreed a strategic partnership with USG, the inventor of drywall and many industry-changing construction materials, including Sheetrock brand All Purpose, Plus 3, and other surface finishing products.

The partnership leverages two major technical advances: onsite robotics from Canvas and advanced building materials expertise from USG.

These organizations joined forces to collectively innovate and address chronic labor shortages, schedule and budget overruns, quality inconsistencies, and productivity and safety issues that have continuously challenged the drywall industry. Construction robotics startup Canvas launches drywall finishing robot

January 27, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Construction robotics startup Canvas has unveiled a drywall finishing robot.

The company also launched its Innovation Partner Program, a collaborative partnership with six industry-leading contractors that share the company’s vision to “build in bold new ways by putting better tools in the hands of skilled workers”.

Drywall finishing tools have remained unchanged for the better part of a century. With Canvas’s new worker-controlled robotic machine, contractors are able to make drywall finishing safer and more attractive to a shrinking pool of skilled labor, while realizing unmatched metrics for schedule, cost, quality and safety.
