Xaba raises $6 million to build ‘synthetic brains’ for industrial robots

Xaba, a startup which says it is building “synthetic brains for industrial robots with zero code”, has secured a $6 million seed extension to accelerate the deployment of AI-powered robotics and cognitive industrial control systems.

The round was led by Hitachi Ventures with participation from Hazelview Ventures, BDC Capital, Exposition Ventures, and Impact Venture Capital.

Scientists build drone to follow and film bees

A team at the University of Freiburg has built a drone capable of following and filming bees over a distance of more than 100 metres.

The data is intended to provide information about the behaviour of insects in their national surroundings. The researchers developed a new tracking technology for this purpose.

Hitachi Digital Services launches R2O2.ai framework to build, scale and operate ‘trustworthy AI’

The R2O2.ai framework is designed to bridge the gap between conceptualizing AI workloads and deploying them at scale, delivering reliable, responsible and observable AI models at unprecedented speed and efficiency – ideal for enterprises aiming to scale their AI projects responsibly and optimally.

The R2O2.ai framework will further expand our proprietary HARC (Hitachi Application Reliability Centers) offering, a suite of engineering services that helps our customers build and manage systems with reliability, resiliency, security and cost efficiency. AUAR ships ABB robot-centered micro-factories to the US to build homes

Construction tech startup Automated Architecture (AUAR) is shipping two of its robotic micro-factories to the US, in the company’s first move to expanding operations to North America.

The first of its kind, AUAR’s micro-factories will be deployed by Rival Holdings, a real estate development and construction firm, to build thousands of sustainable and affordable homes across the Midwest.

AUAR’s project caters to a growing need in the region. The partnership between AUAR and Rival Holdings aims to address the ongoing housing crisis in the US.

Yaskawa partners with Astellas Pharma to build ‘innovative’ cell therapy platform combining robotics and pharmaceutical technologies

Yaskawa Electric, one of the world’s largest industrial robot manufacturers, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Japan’s Astellas Pharma to start talks about building what they describe as “an innovative cell therapy platform by combining robotics and pharmaceutical technologies”.

The MOU is a legally non-binding agreement on a partnership between the two companies, and specific discussions will proceed from now on.

Based on this MOU, the two companies aim to jointly build a new cell therapy platform that may potentially seamlessly bridges the initial stage of research in the cell therapy field to its commercialization, enabling high quality manufacturing of cell therapy products as well as shortening the research and development period. Nvidia partners with Foxconn to build factories and systems

Nvidia says it is collaborating with Hon Hai Technology Group – more popularly known as Foxconn – to accelerate the AI industrial revolution.

Foxconn will integrate Nvidia technology to develop a new class of data centers powering a wide range of applications – including digitalization of manufacturing and inspection workflows, development of AI-powered electric vehicle and robotics platforms, and a growing number of language-based generative AI services.

Announced during a “fireside chat” between Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang and Foxconn chairman and CEO Young Liu at Hon Hai Tech Day, in Taipei, Taiwan, the collaboration starts with the creation of AI factories – an Nvidia GPU computing infrastructure specially built for processing, refining and transforming vast amounts of data into valuable AI models and tokens – based on the Nvidia accelerated computing platform, including the latest Nvidia GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip and Nvidia AI Enterprise software. Georgia Tech partners with Stilfold to advance ‘industrial origami’ engineering program

Georgia Tech’s School of Civil and Environmental Engineering is partnering with Stockholm-based startup Stilfold to roll out a pioneering initiative that will teach students innovative new approaches to sustainable manufacturing, inspired by the Japanese art of origami.

Stilfold is a leading design and technology startup pioneering the use of curve folding and robotics to build things more sustainably. The company says its “groundbreaking technology”, dubbed “industrial origami”, involves the use of robots to fold flat sheet metal over curves to create strong and sustainable new structures.

Nasa awards AeroVironment $10 million contract to design helicopters for Mars mission

The success of Ingenuity Mars helicopter, co-designed and co-developed by AeroVironment and NASA/JPL, lays the foundation for the development of the Sample Recovery Helicopters

AeroVironment has been awarded a $10 million contract by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) to co-design and co-develop conceptual designs and engineering development units of Mars Sample Recovery Helicopter flight systems.

Future efforts could include detailed design, build, and test of qualification and flight hardware. The helicopters build upon the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter design heritage and feature upgraded robotics to supplement aerial mobility.

AeroVironment engineers from the MacCready Works team previously worked with NASA JPL to co-design and develop the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter, which has completed 52 successful flights to date on Mars and survived 781 sols on the surface, far outperforming its design objectives.
