Boston Dynamics and Toyota Research Institute demonstrate humanoid robot powered by ‘large behaviour model’

August 26, 2025 by Mai Tao

Boston Dynamics and Toyota Research Institute (TRI) have released details of what they describe as “a big step forward in robotics and artificial intelligence research”: demonstrating a Large Behavior Model (LBM) powering the Atlas humanoid robot.

In a video jointly released by the two organizations (see below), Atlas performs a long, continuous sequence of complex tasks that require combining object manipulation with locomotion.

By adopting LBMs, new capabilities that previously would have been laboriously hand-programmed can now be added quickly and without writing a single new line of code. [Read more…] about Boston Dynamics and Toyota Research Institute demonstrate humanoid robot powered by ‘large behaviour model’

Robots are getting smarter and more sophisticated. They also need to get safer

June 17, 2025 by Sam Francis

By Jenny Shern, general manager at NexCOBOT, part of Nexcom

Robot installations worldwide have more than doubled in the past decade – and deployments are no longer contained to the manufacturing line.

A growing wave of players are racing to develop advanced robots and humanoids with sophisticated capabilities in a variety of dynamic environments, from retail stores and hotel lobbies to eldercare facilities and bustling warehouses

For instance, Amazon’s newest collaborative robot, Vulcan, is equipped with tactile sensing that enables it to pick, sort, and stow objects with the finesse of a human hand. [Read more…] about Robots are getting smarter and more sophisticated. They also need to get safer
