Siasun becomes first Chinese company to join leading US robotics association

Siasun Robot & Automation has become the first Chinese company to join the US Robotic Industries Association. 

Siasun is said to be China’s largest robot supplier and integrator. By joining RIA, the company will gain greater access to the association’s members, partners and personnel.

‘World’s first’ fully automated port terminal opens in Melbourne

The Port of Melbourne is the site of what is said to be the world’s first fully automated container handling terminal.

The system was developed and delivered by Kalmar, part of Cargotec, and Navis, part of Kalmar Business Area within Cargotec.

New Apple iPhone could face manufacturing delays

The new iPhone which Apple is planning to launch tomorrow is likely to face manufacturing delays, according to a report in Wall Street Journal. 

Any new iPhone usually sells out quite quickly so there’s almost always shortages, but this time shortfalls could be due to a lack of new screens.

Mercedes to showcase EQ electric and autonomous concept car at Frankfurt motor show

Mercedes will be showing off the latest version of its electric and autonomous concept car, the EQ, at the Frankfurt motor show, IAA 2017. 

Mercedes says the smart vision EQ fortwo provides a new vision of urban mobility and individualised, highly flexible, totally efficient local public transport.

Nissan integrates ProPilot autonomous tech in Leaf electric vehicle

Nissan has launched the new version of Leaf, which the company claims is “world’s most advanced mass-market electric vehicle”. 

The new Nissan Leaf is the company’s first car in Europe that will embrace the early steps of advanced driver assistance, and is packed with cutting-edge innovations such as e-Pedal, allowing humans to drive and brake in “a totally new and seamless way”.

Audi to showcase autonomous driving technology at Frankfurt motor show

Audi is to showcase its autonomous driving technology at the Frankfurt motor show, IAA 2017, staring later this week.

The auto giant says it has been making progress on many levels and is concentrating on providing level 3 automation as standard on its luxury A8 model.

Denso creates consortium for network and computing infrastructure of automotive big data

Denso, the main supplier of automotive components to Toyota, is part of a new consortium which will develop infrastructure for driving data.

As well as Denso, other companies in the consortium are Ericsson, Intel, NTT, NTT Docomo, Toyota InfoTechnology, and Toyota Motor.

Omron to acquire Microscan Systems

Industrial automation company Omron has agreed to acquire Microscan Systems, a provider of code scanning and decoding technology for industrial applications.

Omron says it is planning to further advance the control of manufacturing equipment and production lines, using internet of things to “connect virtually all objects on a manufacturing floor”, including components and machines.

Ekso Bionics raises $34 million in funding for exoskeleton plans

Ekso Bionics, a developer of exoskeleton technology for medical and industrial use, has raised $34 million in its latest share issue.

Many of the new shares were purchased by Puissance Capital.

Exoskeletons are predicted to find markets in the health sector as well as industries such as construction, or anywhere where there may be physical work involved.

Kuka to replace entire Agilus range of small robots

Kuka says it is working on innovations and improvements which will lead to the replacement of its entire Agilus range by the end of this year.

Kuka says the small robots of the KR Agilus series already feature “impressive speed, extreme agility in confined spaces, short cycle times and maximum precision”.
