The global robot population is growing at what some might say is an alarming rate. 

As well as the countless millions already tucked away in factories and homes everywhere, there could be another 2 million added to that number by the end of the decade, which may or may not coincide with the end of humanity’s control over the planet and a ceremonial transfer of power to the robots and artificial intelligence.

General Electric wins $230 million order for Boeing Dreamliner engines from Uzbekistan Airways

Uzbekistan Airways has selected General Electric’s GEnx-1B engines to power four new Boeing 787-8 aircraft, also known as Dreamliners.

The engine order is valued at more than $230 million, including a custom-ordered spare engine. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2018.

Omron launches new integrated controller

Omron has launched its new NJ/NY-series NC Integrated Controller, which the company says “boosts productivity of processing machines”.

The NC Integrated Controller provides G-Code functionality and numerical control functionality, enabling high-precision complex profiling and increasing the production capacity of processing machines.

Red Lion Controls has launched its newest generation of human machine interfaces, the CR1000 and CR3000.

Red Lion specialises in communication, monitoring and control technologies for industrial automation and networking.

Omron to launch 144 products in two categories for factory automation

Omron is preparing to launch 144 models in two categories of factory automation.

The new products will be formally released on October 2, 2017.

Hyundai creates separate industrial robotics division, aims for top 5 status

Hyundai Heavy Industries has established a robotics division and has a stated goal of becoming one of the top five industrial robot manufacturers in the world. 

Hyundai Robotics was established in 1984, and has been a division of Hyundai until now.

Denso Robotics launches new scara robot

Denso Robotics has launched its latest HSR four-axis scara – selective compliant assembly robot arm – robot. 

The company says the new robot uses advanced vibration control, a newly designed, highly rigid lightweight arm and improved heat dissipation in the base unit to achieve new levels of continuous high-speed performance and repeatability.

GE Digital to switch to Amazon and Microsoft instead of building its own data centres

General Electric’s digital business unit became one of the world’s largest software companies by offering an internet of things platform for industrial operations. 

GE Digital’s Predix software platform enabled machines in factories to send data through the sensors attached to them to the associated computer interfaces.
