Surgere partners with Fetch Robotics to launch cycle-counting logistics robot

August 21, 2017 by David Edwards

robi the logistics robot by Surgere and Fetch

Surgere has partnered with Fetch Robotics to launch what it calls a “Robotically Optimized and Balanced Inventory” system – or, in other words, a logistics robot called Robi.

The companies say Robi is designed to help automate cycle counts and improve overall accuracy of on-hand inventory within automotive manufacturing and warehouse environments.

Automated and autonomous warehouse management systems are becoming an increasingly important differentiator as competition in the logistics sector intensifies as a result of growing online shopping worldwide.

Surgere is a provider of visibility and control systems within a digitized supply chain – radio frequency identification, location and environment sensors, and advanced data analytics, and so on.  [Read more…] about Surgere partners with Fetch Robotics to launch cycle-counting logistics robot

Asian demand for actuators for industrial robots set to increase in next few years

August 21, 2017 by David Edwards

actuators

The market for motors and actuators for industrial robots is forecast to increase dramatically over the next few years, according to a new report.

The market is also set to see “intense competition”, says Technavio, which adds that key vendors are “constantly trying to provide innovative motors and actuators for industrial robot manufacturers”.

In their bid to outdo each other, vendors are said to be providing full-fledged customer services and support, as well as assisting in training the employees to operate the industrial robots.  [Read more…] about Asian demand for actuators for industrial robots set to increase in next few years

apple carplay

Apple has updated one of its patents which outlines the design of a sensor which would enable cars to communicate with each other, according to a report on CNBC.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has said the company is developing autonomous systems, but did not say whether it would build a car of its own.

The new sensor could be integrated into Apple’s in-car information and entertainment console, CarPlay, which is already in some new cars on the market.  [Read more…] about Apple patents sensor to enable cars to communicate with each other

Vertical farms in urban areas ready to grow after harvesting tons of seed money

August 18, 2017 by David Edwards

farm

Even if you’ve never heard the term before, you probably understand what “vertical farming” is.

Unlike some buzz phrases, it sounds like what it means – farms built upwards, inside a building on multiple levels, unlike traditional farms, which occupy large, flat, single-level fields, covering thousands of acres of earth if done on an industrial scale.

The concept of vertical farms has been around a long time, but perhaps only now is the technology available to sustain the sector commercially.  [Read more…] about Vertical farms in urban areas ready to grow after harvesting tons of seed money
