Berkeley developing ‘low-cost, human-friendly’ robot for the home

Berkeley University has unveiled what it describes as a “low-cost, human-friendly” robot which is capable of accommodating artificial intelligence. (See video below.)

In an article on the university’s website, “Blue”, which is a two-armed robot, is said to have been designed to use recent advances in artificial AI and deep reinforcement learning to master intricate human tasks.

Epson launches IntelliFlex parts singulation solution

Epson Robots has launched its IntelliFlex Feeding System, powered by Epson Robots’ IntelliFlex Software and Vision Guide.

Epson says the IntelliFlex Feeding System delivers a “simplistic and affordable feeding solution” to accommodate a wide variety of parts for advanced applications in medical, consumer, automotive, electronics and more.

BMW and DXC partner to accelerate development of autonomous driving

DXC Technology has reached an agreement to support BMW’s autonomous vehicle development through the automaker’s “High Performance D3” platform.

DXC provides services that help to provide and simplify data analysis and train the necessary algorithms to reduce the time and cost of developing autonomous vehicles.

Arevo to manufacture ‘world’s first’ 3D-printed carbon fiber unibody bike frames

Startup company Arevo is to manufacture ‘world’s first’ 3D-printed carbon fiber unibody bike frames for the new line of e-bikes from Franco Bicycles.

Arevo, a Silicon Valley company specializing in composites manufacturing through digitalization, says the partnership with boutique bike manufacturer Franco Bicycles will deliver “the world’s first 3D printed, continuous carbon fiber single-piece unibody frame” for Franco’s “Emery” brand.

Komatsu establishes ‘center of excellence’ for its autonomous haulage trucks

Mining vehicles giant Komatsu has created what it describes as a “center of excellence” for its massive autonomous haulage trucks.

The company says the new facility brings together product, technology and service experts from across the company.

Car2MEC connected driving tests concluded

Local cloud computing (Multi-access Edge Computing – MEC) is a key enabling technology for connected driving, specifically for driving safety.

It is vitally important that the industries involved in connected driving work closely together to turn the concepts into sustainable business for all parties involved.

These are the main conclusions of the Car2MEC project after two years of intensive trialling and testing by Continental, Deutsche Telekom, Fraunhofer ESK, MHP and Nokia on the A9 motorway digital test track in Germany.
