Telecommunications technology company Ericsson and industrial giant ABB have strengthened their collaboration to accelerate the industrial ecosystem for flexible wireless automation.
The partnership will enable enhanced connected services, industrial internet of things, and artificial intelligence technologies in the future.

RightHand Robotics, a provider of autonomous robotic piece-picking solutions, has released its RightPick2 solution, the company’s next-generation, integrated software and hardware product platform.
The launch was made at the ongoing ProMat Show in Chicago, a major showcase for material handling automation for supply chain, distribution and manufacturing.

Epson Robots has expanded its SCARA robot lineup with the introduction of four new robots – the LS3-B, LS6-B, LS10-B and LS20-B.
The new robots will be available in the summer and fall of 2019 with the LS10-B shipping in June.

Funding to accelerate development of robot-enabled solutions to agricultural industry labor challenges, says the company
Augean Robotics, a Philadelphia-based startup developing a collaborative robotic platform for the agriculture industry, says it has raised $1.5 million in its seed funding round.
The round was led by ffVC, with participation from S2G Ventures, Radicle Growth, and several others. As part of the round, Adam J. Plotkin from ffVC and Kirk Haney from Radicle Growth joined Augean’s board.

Harvard’s Wyss Institute has unveiled a robot that can build walls. The university says the idea is to have the robot build barriers against floods, among other things. (See video below.)
In a blog post, the Wyss Institute says the robot that can “autonomously drive interlocking steel sheet piles into soil”.

US small satellite launch company Rocket Lab is expanding its production to include the in-house designed and built Photon satellite platform.
Whereas the company previously concentrated on launch services, having launched 25 satellites so far, Rocket Lab now delivers an integrated spacecraft build and launch service.

inVia Robotics, a provider of warehouse automation solutions for e-commerce, has expanded the application of its Picker robots in additional Rakuten Super Logistics warehouses across the United States.
Following the success of an initial installation in 2018, RSL will roll out inVia’s automation technology for picking across its fulfillment network.

Alstom is to equip Mumbai Metro lines 2A, 2B and 7, and Pune Metro lines 1 and 2, with Urbalis 400, Alstom’s latest generation of Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) technology.
The contract for Mumbai Metro, awarded by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (DMRC), is to provide the CBTC signalling system as well as a state-of-the-art telecommunication system for the three elevated lines. The combined lengths of lines 2A, 2B and 7 make it one of the most extensive signalling projects in the country.
The signalling scope includes design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of Urbalis 400 and includes supply and commissioning of on-board equipment for 63 trains.
