Where Innovation Meets Imagination

Estone releases ‘rugged, specialized’ tablet PCs for industry

Estone Technology has release two new rugged tablet PCs featuring Android operating systems.

The 8-inch and 10-in Android tablets are specialized for medical and industrial-rugged duty, respectively, but are more than flexible enough to meet the demands of almost any industry.

Both have endured MIL-STD-810G Ruggedness testing, and are rated IP65 waterproof, have an extremely durable optically-bonded screen, and are equipped to go almost anywhere.

MJ-80 8″ Android-Powered Medical TabletThe MJ-80 tablet is a semi-rugged, 8-inch tablet designed primarily for the medical and healthcare industry, though by no means limited to those industries.

It is built around an efficient Rockchip RK3368 1.5GHz Cortex A53 Quad-Core processor, backed with up to 4GB of DDR3L-1600 RAM and an efficient eMMC up to 128GB.

The MJ-80 features plenty of I/O options not found on consumer-grade tablets, including MicroUSB 2.0, HDMI, and an RJ45 10/100 Ethernet port.

The system also features a drop-in docking port supporting battery charging and USB connectivity.

In the demanding medical industry, a number of special features are key, including a series of programmable hardware buttons for common or repetitive tasks.

Also available is an integrated 1D/2D Barcode scanner, perfect for scanning paperwork, patient IDs, medication labels, and other items; NFC connectivity for security and access; and a 4G LTE module that supports multi-carrier certification and makes it easy to use the tablet away from a healthcare facility as needed.

The tablet is constructed with anti-microbial materials for easy cleaning and disinfecting.

MJ-100 10″ Rugged Android TabletThe MJ-100 rugged android tablet, meanwhile, is designed with an extra level of ruggedness and use flexibility in mind.

The system is built around a powerful Rockchip RK3399, 1.8GHz processor, with a potent Mali-T860MP4 GPU so that it has plenty of power to run virtually any Android standard or custom app in full HD.

The processor is available in A72 Dual Core or A53 Quad Core, and either configuration makes use of NXP’s TrustZone hardware security.

The remainder of the system’s hardware remains the same as in the 8” model, with up to 4GB of LPDDR3-1866 RAM, and an eMMC 5.1 drive up to 128GB. I/O offerings are slightly different, with USB 3.0 @1A, HDMI, and a TF Card socket supporting SDXC, SDHC, and SD3.0.

Instead of offering drop-in docking and a barcode scanner, as with the medical model, the MJ-100 offers built-in VESA mounting, making the tablet a great option for kiosk or in-vehicle use, and extremely broad 4G LTE support, so that the tablet can connect and work anywhere, with any carrier.
