Unitree dominates inaugural World Humanoid Robot Games with four gold medals

August 26, 2025 by Mai Tao

Unitree Robotics has emerged as the standout performer at the inaugural World Humanoid Robot Games (WHRG) in Beijing, taking home four gold medals across some of the event’s most competitive categories. (See video below.)

The Chinese robotics company clinched victories in the 1500 m race, 400 m race, 100 m obstacle course, and 4×100 m relay, marking a historic sweep at the debut competition.

A highlight of the Games was the speed milestone achieved by Unitree’s humanoids, which clocked 4.78 m/s during competition, with the company noting that its latest internal tests have already surpassed 5 m/s – a benchmark that sets a new pace for humanoid robotics. Galbot becomes first company ‘in the world’ to integrate Nvidia Jetson Thor into a humanoid robot

August 26, 2025 by Mai Tao

Galbot has integrated Nvidia’s Jetson AGX Thor platform into its G1 Premium humanoid robot, aiming to accelerate performance and expand commercial deployment across retail, healthcare, and logistics. The company claims it is the “first in the world” to use the new Nvidia chip tech in a humanoid robot.

Unveiled at the World Robotics Conference (WRC), the G1 Premium now delivers 7.5x the AI compute of Nvidia Jetson Orin and 3.5x greater energy efficiency. The upgrades enable faster, smoother motion, real-time reasoning, and higher-precision autonomy.

Professor Wang He, founder and CTO of Galbot, says: “Our G1 Premium, now running on Nvidia Jetson Thor, has already demonstrated remarkable advancements in speed and improved real-time reasoning capability. This early adoption empowers us to push our proprietary VLA models to new levels of real-world capability.” [Read more…] about Galbot becomes first company ‘in the world’ to integrate Nvidia Jetson Thor into a humanoid robot

Historic debut of the World Humanoid Robot Games kicks off in Beijing

August 15, 2025 by Mai Tao

The inaugural World Humanoid Robot Games (WHRG) roared into life yesterday evening at the iconic National Speed Skating Oval – the “Ice Ribbon” from the 2022 Winter Olympics. (See video below.)

A dazzling opening ceremony saw humanoid robots break into hip-hop dance routines, martial arts displays, and live musical performances on keyboards, guitars, and drums.

One robot even scored a soccer goal; another fell but got back up unaided, while a model bot tumbled off the stage and had to be carried by staff – underscoring both the spectacle and the still-evolving nature of the technology. Can robots play football? Why AI still struggles with physical movement

June 30, 2025 by Sam Francis

The world’s first AI robot football match shows how far we still have to go

At first glance, it looked like a slow-motion parody of the world’s most beloved sport. On a small indoor pitch in Beijing, teams of humanoid robots wobbled across the turf, scanning the field with glowing blue eyes, tripping over their own feet, and occasionally collapsing in awkward heaps. At one point, two machines had to be stretchered off after failing to stand up again.

Yet for the engineers behind the event, this wasn’t a failure – it was a breakthrough.

Staged in June 2025, China’s first fully autonomous robot football match marked a milestone in the development of embodied artificial intelligence. Each of the robots, including several built on the well-known Nao platform, played without any remote control or manual input. [Read more…] about Can robots play football? China hosts world’s first fully autonomous humanoid robot football match

June 30, 2025 by Sam Francis

Beijing has hosted what is believed to be the world’s first fully autonomous football match between humanoid robots, marking a milestone in the development of embodied artificial intelligence.

Held on June 28 in the Yizhuang Development Zone, the match featured four teams of robots developed by Chinese universities, including Tsinghua University and China Agricultural University. In the final, the THU Robotics team beat the Mountain Sea team 5-3.

Each robot operated entirely without human control, using onboard cameras, sensors, and deep reinforcement learning algorithms to detect the ball, make tactical decisions, and navigate the field. Organizers say the event represents a breakthrough in real-time AI decision-making in dynamic physical environments.
