Furhat Robotics acquires Misty Robotics

Furhat Robotics, the Swedish company behind the humanoid social robot “Furhat”, has acquired US-based Misty Robotics, creators of purpose-built social robots for developers.

The Furhat robot is used in a variety of advanced academic research and business applications, including “the world’s first unbiased interviewer” – avoiding unconscious biases about race and gender.

The acquisition of Colorado-based Misty Robotics, for an undisclosed sum, establishes an American base of operations for the Swedish scaleup, which is already utilized by US brands including Disney, Intel, Accenture and Facebook, as well as academic institutions including Boston-based Northeastern University. Misty Robotics launches two new Misty II models

Misty Robotics, the creators of the Misty II platform robot, have launched two additional Misty II models.

Customers can now choose between three models (Misty II Basic Edition, Misty II Standard Edition, and Misty II Enhanced Edition) based on the robot capabilities required for their given use case and budget.

Misty Robotics launches first Misty II app template for concierge use

Misty Robotics, the creators of the Misty II platform robot, have launched the “Misty as a Concierge” application template, which provides developers with a starting point to build robot skills and put Misty II to work in the service sector.

The Misty II application templates are open source code for developers to build upon and customize for a specific assignment or task.

Misty Robotics starts shipping new robot to backers

Misty Robotics has started shipping the second version of its small robot to the company’s backers.

Writing on the company’s blog, Ian Bernstein, founder and head of product, says: “Misty has already begun to land on doorsteps and she’ll continue to be delivered in the coming weeks. If you’re a backer, keep an eye out.”

Misty Robotics selects Microsoft’s .NET Core for its robot platform and tools

Misty Robotics, the creator of the Misty robot developer platform, has chosen Microsoft’s .NET Core for use with its robot platform and related tools.

Misty is focused on enabling developers to build skills for its robots that offer value and utility for personal and business use.

Today, Misty Robotics is successfully leveraging the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) as its central platform for developing functionality for the Misty II robot.

Misty creates developer edition of home robot

Misty Robotics, the personal robot company spun out from Sphero, the creator of the BB-8 toy robot, announced, at CES 2018, the limited availability of the Misty I Developer Edition prototype robot and software tools.

The robot will be made available to a select group of developers and inventors who will help create useful skills for the next generation robot, Misty II, coming later in 2018. The Misty I Developer Edition robot will begin shipping next month and is priced at $1499.

“We believe that by creating an affordable and highly programmable robot for developers first, we can accelerate towards a future of helpful personal robots in our homes and offices,” said Ian Bernstein, Founder and Head of Product, Misty Robotics.
