Bosch to assume full control of electric motor manufacturer EM-motive

January 29, 2019 by Anna

Bosch is now assuming full control of EM-motive, one of Europe’s most successful manufacturers of electric motors.

Bosch and Daimler set up EM-motive GmbH as a fifty-fifty joint venture in 2011. Since then, it has manufactured some 450,000 electric motors.

From the establishment of the joint venture, Bosch secured an option to acquire the shares. A complete takeover was thus already an option in the joint venture agreement.

Bosch presents tomorrow’s mobility today

December 17, 2018 by Anna

Bosch will present its new concept of shuttle at The Consumer Electronics Show CES 2019 in Las Vegas on January 8-11.

A light, airy, minimalistic design, a futuristic outer shell made of display screens and glass, and a spacious interior – the description of a new class of vehicle and a new kind of mobility: driverless electric shuttles that glide almost silently through city centres and are seamlessly connected with their environment.

These may soon be a common sight on our city streets. Bosch provides components and systems for automating, connecting, and electrifying the shuttles, but shuttle mobility won’t be possible without mobility services.

Bosch and IHK offer Industry 4.0 qualification

December 12, 2018 by Anna

Bosch has joined forces with the Stuttgart Region Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) in Germany and other science and industry partners to develop a certification course called Fachkraft für Industrie 4.0 (IHK), or Industry 4.0 specialist, and launch a pilot program.

The first nationwide IHK training course to cater to skilled workers, it brings technicians up to speed with the requirements of connected manufacturing.

Technologies that enable Industry 4.0 applications figure prominently on the syllabus, as do agile working methods.

Machine learning: Bosch sends sensor system to space station

December 11, 2018 by Anna

Bosch in North America and Astrobotic Technology Inc. have announced a research partnership to send experimental sensor technology to the International Space Station (ISS) as early as May 2019.

Bosch’s SoundSee technology is a deep audio analytics capability that uses a custom array of microphones and machine learning to analyse information contained in emitted noises.

SoundSee’s analytics will investigate whether audio data from equipment could be learned and understood using advanced software, such that it could be used to improve the operations of the ISS.

Centimetres make all the difference for safe automated driving, says Bosch

December 3, 2018 by Anna

Automated driving is about more than just sensors, control units, and lots of computing power, says Bosch. It also requires a host of smart services, without which no vehicle will ever be able to drive autonomously.

“Services are at least as important for automated driving as the hardware and software,” says the Bosch board of management member Dr. Dirk Hoheisel. “We must pursue all three paths simultaneously to get self-driving cars safely and reliably onto our roads.”

Self-driving vehicles can drive safely only if they know down to the nearest centimetre exactly where they are at any given time, says Bosch. To achieve this, the company offers a  localisation package.

Daimler and Bosch choose San Jose as pilot city for automated on-demand ride-hailing service

November 9, 2018 by David Edwards

Daimler and Bosch automated driving

Two giants of the global automotive industry – Daimler Mercedes-Benz and Bosch – have chosen San José as the pilot city for their automated on-demand ride-hailing service.

These companies tend to use the word “automated” to mean autonomous or driverless.

The test area will be the San Carlos-Stevens Creek corridor between downtown and west San José.

The on-demand ride-hailing service app will offer an automated driving experience to a selected user community.  [Read more…] about Daimler and Bosch choose San Jose as pilot city for automated on-demand ride-hailing service

Robotics to aid people with disabilities at work

October 5, 2018 by Anna

Robots are well on the way to becoming ubiquitous in manufacturing, where they are having an impact on the work environment and on jobs themselves.

But what does this new world of work look like? How does it divide work up between humans and machines? And how might robots help create attractive jobs for people with disabilities so they can be participate in the workforce?

AQUIAS, a project conducted by Robert Bosch GmbH, the Fraunhofer Institutes for Industrial Engineering IAO and for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA, and ISAK GmbH offers some answers.

Bosch reveals ideas for autonomous technology for trucks

August 14, 2018 by David Edwards

Bosch has unveiled a long list of ideas for future trucks, which it envisions as having much more autonomous technology and being powered by an electric engine.

Apparently, the company also believes digital side-view mirrors are the way forward, as well as a “digital instrument cluster”, which is probably the same as a “virtual dashboard”.

In fact, “digital” is at the heart of almost all the new ideas, with computers being used for cloud connectivity, predictive diagnostics and many other new functions and services.  [Read more…] about Bosch reveals ideas for autonomous technology for trucks
