Webcast: Kalray unveils new AI processor technology for autonomous vehicles

In this presentation and interview, Stéphane Cordova, VP of embedded technology at Kalray, provides an insight into the company’s artificial intelligence computing systems for autonomous cars, as well as Kalray itself. (See video below.)

Kalray recently unveiled its new neural network platform, which it calls “KaNN”, saying it enables “high-performance machine learning” applications for a variety of sectors including automotive, one of the areas in which it specialises.

Industrial IoT startup MachineMetrics raises $11.3 million in funding

Industrial IoT startup MachineMetrics has raised $11.3 million in Series A funding. The company says the funding will enable it to “continue leading the endeavor to bring analytics to manufacturing”.

In a circular, the company says: “We intend to use every penny to give our customers a world-class experience through faster growth, focused innovation, quick product updates, custom features, improved service – and that’s just the start.”

Continental to strengthen global network of AI experts

Continental intends to increase its team of experts in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) by 2021 from around 400 employees today to around 700 employees.

The aim was announced as part of the company’s first international ‘AIR (Artificial Intelligence and Robotics) Days’, where almost 200 Continental experts in artificial intelligence and robotics exchanged information about current developments in this research field.

The AIR Days event is part of Continental’s strategy to bolster itself as a technology company that uses artificial intelligence in all areas.

Canvass Analytics has signed an agreement with Olam International, a leading global agri-business operating in 66 countries, to utilize artificial intelligence as part of its strategy to find innovative and new ways of meeting the world’s rapidly growing demand for food, feed, fibre and fuel.

Olam is one of the world’s largest agri-businesses, serving more than 22,000 customers worldwide. Its heritage lies in the origination and traditional supply chain management, sourcing agricultural ingredients and raw materials in the food and beverage, textile, wood, rubber and related industries.

Christie’s sells painting produced by AI for almost half a million dollars

World-famous auction house Christie’s in New York has sold a painting produced by an artificial intelligence system for almost half a million dollars. 

The shock price is almost 45 times the $10,000 upper estimate the auctioneer had placed on the painting before the sale, as reported on this website.

Christie’s in New York to auction painting produced by artificial intelligence for around $10,000

A painting produced by artificial intelligence will be auctioned by Christie’s in an auction tomorrow – Thursday, 25th October 2018 – in New York.

The portrait, called Edmond de Belamy (main picture), is believed to be the first piece of AI art to go under the hammer at a major auction house and is created by French art collective “Obvious”.
