Hong Kong university develops automated quality control system for textiles industry

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University says it has developed an intelligent fabric defect detection system, called “WiseEye”, which leverages advanced technologies including artificial intelligence and deep learning in the process of quality control in the textile industry.

PolyU says the system effectively minimises the chance of producing substandard fabric by 90 percent, substantially reducing loss and wastage in the production.

Kyocera to build new manufacturing plant in Kanagawa, Japan for conductive and insulation pastes

Kyocera says it has started construction of a new manufacturing facility on the premises of its Kawasaki manufacturing complex in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.

The new facility will allow Kyocera to increase its production capacity by 50 percent for conductive and insulation pastes utilized in applications ranging from semiconductors and digital devices to automotive electronics and energy products.

Universal Robots awards Gold Edition to Vietnamese partner

Universal Robots has awarded one of its special Gold Edition robots to a selected Southeast Asia partner.

Vietnam’s Vinacomin Motor Industry Joint Stock Company was presented with the rare UR10 special edition collaborative robot, or cobot, which has joints painted in a rich, gold-coloured finish.

Universal Robots machines are always blue and grey. Singapore robotics event returns against ‘exponential change in industry’

Organisers of the Singapore International Robo Expo 2018 say the event is returning amid “exponential change in industry”.

SIRE will return on 1-2 November to the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, and this year, the trade show will focus on next-generation robotics technologies.

HRG Robotics to develop logistics robots with Ground Inc

HIT Robot Group one of China’s leading robot manufacturers, has been showcasing more than 20 industrial robots at the 20th China International Industry Fair in Shanghai, a major event for industrial equipment manufacturers in China.

Among the systems on show were “logistics robots”, says HRG.

According to the 2018 Analysis Report On the Robotics Industry In China which analyzed the latest trends and challenges of the robotics industry, China has a booming industrial robot industry with a growing demand for automated logistics solutions.

In 2017, the total volume of logistics robots sold was about 12,900 units, representing 103 percent year-on-year growth. Next Future Transportation launches autonomous vehicle

A company called Next Future Transportation has launched a driverless vehicle that it describes as an autonomous “Parcel Delivery Solution”. (See video below.) 

The vehicle could also be used as a minibus for transporting people.

Denso leads $65 million funding round in autonomous car developer ThinCI

Denso says it led the $65 million Series C funding round in ThinCI in order to “make autonomous cars a reality”.

Denso, the main supplier to Toyota, says the investment speeds development of semiconductor devices with deep learning capabilities required for next-generation autonomous and electric vehicles.

Denso, which is a $50 billion company and one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers of technology and components, says it is continuing to search for new ways to support the development of future mobility solutions that will “revolutionize how society moves”. Australia’s ‘first’ on-demand, driverless car arrives in Perth, built with Navya

The Western Australian city of Perth is now home to one of the world’s first driverless, on-demand vehicles, after the official unveiling of the RAC Intellicar yesterday.

RAC is an insurance and breakdown recovery service in Australia. It previously showcased ideas for a driverless minibus called an Intellibus, citing David Hasselhoff and Batman as influences.

Designed as a shared mobility service, the RAC Intellicar will become the newest addition to RAC’s automated vehicle program, supported by the Western Australian Government and vehicle manufacturer, Navya.
