Staying Warm and Saving Money: Navigating the Warm Home Discount Scheme

April 27, 2023 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

The warm home discount scheme is a UK government initiative that offers eligible low-income and vulnerable energy customers a £140 discount on their energy bills during the winter season.

While customers who receive pension credit automatically qualify for the discount, other qualifying low-income households must apply for it. Their eligibility is subject to their energy provider offering the scheme and availability of funds.

It is important to note that the discount is directly applied to customers’ energy bills rather than being paid out separately. As the energy crisis continues to impact household bills, the warm home discount scheme has gained increased attention from ministers seeking solutions to address the issue. The Future of Solar Panel Cleaning: Robots vs Humans

April 27, 2023 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

One of the advantages of solar systems is their minimal maintenance.

This is true, there are no moving parts in the panels that can fail due to friction, they do not wear out, so they can serve for a long time without loss of efficiency.

But often users notice that performance has started to drop. Some even call specialists, believing that something is wrong with the batteries. There’s something wrong with them, they are just dirty.

Solar systems need constant care. It is necessary to clean the surface of the panels at least 2 times a year – in spring and autumn, but it is better to do this more often. [Read more…] about The Future of Solar Panel Cleaning: Robots vs Humans

Outrider launches automated trailer inventory management platform

April 27, 2023 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

Outrider, a developer of autonomous yard operations for logistics hubs, has released its system for trailer inventory management at distribution yards.

Part of the Outrider System, this patent-pending trailer inventory feature provides real-time tracking of the semi-trailers and containers in yards. This constantly updated intelligence about asset and freight locations enables large, logistics-dependent enterprises to increase the efficiency of their yard operations.

Today’s yard operations require employees to patrol the distribution yard – either on foot or by driving a vehicle – to manually update the locations of trailers in dock spots, parking spots, and storage areas. This data collection process is tedious, error-prone, and quickly outdated, causing frequent shipping delays. [Read more…] about Outrider launches automated trailer inventory management platform

Historical textiles in focus: IDS technology provides technology to preserve priceless artefacts

April 27, 2023 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

New approaches to investigate damage due to environmental fluctuation on textile artefacts by image processing

Preventive conservation plays an important role in the preservation of art and cultural assets. In order to preserve their condition for as long as possible, it is essential to slow down ageing processes and evaluate factors that alter materials.

To do this, it is necessary to grasp and have an holistic understanding of the artefact. Cultural heritage science and engineering methods for understanding material behaviour require an interdisciplinary approach.

Textiles are among the most sensitive art and cultural heritage objects. In the course of their production and handling, their presentation and storage, they are often exposed to influences that can have a damaging effect. How Danone created its new automated palletising system with Yaskawa

April 27, 2023 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

When Yaskawa Southern Africa was contacted about Danone’s new automation project in Boksburg, the industrial robotics manufacturer teamed up with one of their preferred suppliers, Tectra Automation, a division of Bosch Rexroth, to offer a turnkey solution.

Yaskawa brought forward its automation expertise to Danone, answering the multinational’s challenge with additional lifting capacity and speed, thanks in no small part to its PL 190 palletising robots. [Read more…] about How Danone created its new automated palletising system with Yaskawa

F-Prime Capital has released its State of Robotics report, which it says provides “comprehensive insight into investment trends and exits”.

Over the past five years, 1,250 robotics companies have generated $20 billion+ of mergers and acquisitions, $15 billon of market cap across public companies, and $100 billion+ of unrealized value from private unicorns alone.

2022 saw a significant pull back in valuations for robotics companies as investors focused on higher revenue predictability and increased capital efficiency, though many companies were able to retain premium valuation multiples. igus unveils ‘first’ industrial robot made of plastic

April 27, 2023 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

igus has unveiled what it says is “the first robot made of high-performance plastic”. At just 8 kg, ReBeL is the lightest in its class: a real lightweight robot.

The compact, space-saving design with an integrated control system in the base opens up completely new fields of application for service robotics.

In collaboration with people, the ReBeL takes on tasks in the event and gastronomy sector, for example as a reliable coffee enricher or as a machine loader in production.

The robot is available as a plug-and-play version with integrated control system and robot software or as an open source version. In addition, users can choose between four or six degrees of freedom and thus adapt the ReBeL to their individual application scenario.
