What are Super Sacks: the Ultimate Guide

December 13, 2021 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

What are super sacks? Super sacks are a type of packaging that is designed to make it easy to store and transport items. They can be made from many different materials, the most popular being plastic.

The super sack is a flexible intermediate bulk container (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container-FIBC) that can be used in varied applications such as chemical and petrochemical storage, foodstuff processing, liquid fertilizers, liquid nitrogen, and much more.

But with so many options out there on the market today, how do you know which one is best for you? Keep reading to find out more about this awesome product!

What are Super Sacks and how do they work

Super sacks are a type of Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container (FIBCs), which Australian Customs offers as an alternative to the typical 50-200L drums or 200-800L containers. FIBCs can be loaded from any angle and unloaded at any angle, often reducing setup and taking downtime by 50 percent to 75 percent.

The sacks mainly consist of two sheets of flexible laminated plastic that are wrapped around each other after being folded into the desired size. The resulting package contains an enclosed volume that has all the properties needed for transporting or storing items in its particular application.

Furthermore, the inner contents are not exposed to potential contaminants during transportation making it suitable for shipping any sensitive cargo both dry or wet including explosive materials.

What are the most common uses for a Super Sack

The most common use for a super sack is as a Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container. Super sacks are also commonly used as RDDs, or Residual Distribution Devices, which make it easier to transport bulk materials from one facility to another without the dangers of spilled hazardous materials.

Super sacks provide a convenient and eco-friendly way for businesses to transport their products with minimal risk of material loss. One of the most cost-effective uses of super sacks is transferring dry pelletized or powdered products from one factory to another through public transportation systems such as trains and trucks.

In this case, since these bags are so lightweight they can be easily packed onto passenger trains and buses, saving both time and money when transporting delicate items.

Different types of Super Sacks for different needs

Super sacks are heavy-duty, flexible intermediate bulk containers. They come in three different materials designated as LL-1, LL-2 and LL-3.

  • LL-1 is for containment of corrosive chemicals requiring the use of steel drums, metal drums, or fiber drums to meet regulatory requirements
  • LL-2 is for chemical products that may react with galvanized containers
  • LL-3 is for packaging applications where containment times can last up to two weeks

They come in a variety of capacities which range from 200 pounds up to 25 tons. The capacity you require depends on your needs and what type of product you’re transporting/supplying.

The benefits of using a Super Sack

A super sack has many perks over bags or bins because when they are coupled with the use of a forklift, it is an effective means to easily maneuver heavy loads. This not only saves the labor associated with having someone continuously bend over and pick up materials manually, but also frees up space in storage areas which signify greater productivity in the workplace.

Economically speaking, using super sacks can help save on time spent managing containers both in shorter man hours and less wasted time waiting for employees to take breaks before picking up freshly filled buckets or lifting heavy boxes onto ladders.

Common problems while using a Super Sack

The super sack is a type of container that is often used for storage, transport, and distribution of dry goods. Problems often arise when trying to load or unload these types of sacks because they are so tall and less stable than rectangular containers.

It’s common for the super sack to develop a hole because sacks do not have reinforcing ribs, and when they are filled with materials that contain sharp edges or particles.
