Travel safe, online

This entire pandemic situation got us bounded to online activities. We’ve been pretty much dependent on the security that the online world has offered to us.

From information gathering, to entertainment, to social activities, and even banking and shopping—the online world seems to have an answer to all of our whims and desires!

But even then, regardless of how big and vast the world wide web is, restrictions are still in place. Much like in the real world, huh?

Different countries and region have set rules and regulations in terms of online activities. For instance, China. The country has been implementing strict internet censorship and has recently implemented new set of laws on how to handle their online data.

Online streaming platforms, like Netflix, are also known to implement restrictions due to regional preferences and other legal obligations.

With that being said, I guess the internet isn’t really as free for all as we initially would have thought.

The work around

Fret no more! Did you know that some geniuses have shed some light so that we can work around these limiting restrictions? It’s called the VPN.

Virtual Private Network (simply known as VPN) is our saving grace! By using VPN, you it is possible to bypass restricted websites. Meaning, there is a good chance that you’ll be able to stream that ‘only available to US territories’ series even if you are miles away from the US.

Cool huh? But how does VPN exactly work? For those who are not that tech-savvy, think of this way—VPN changes your online location.

Every time you go online, you are ‘housed’ by your IP address. Simply put, this is your online address. Whatever you do online, whether you stream movies, play games, do online shopping, or even just randomly watching those cute puppy and kitten videos, the activities that you do are tagged with your IP address.

But thanks to VPN, our internet activities can be masked. Instead of the website directly tagging your actual location, the service provider sees the location of the VPN server instead. Think of it as your online decoy.

More benefits from using VPN

Aside from the mundane benefits like entertainment, VPN also offers an extra layer of security that would help keep you away from the prying eyes of online scammers.

Since VPN disguises your online data, it would be impossible for hackers and cyber criminals to gain access to your personal information. Most, if not all VPN service providers, have security encryption features that ensure that your identity is kept safe.

This is another essential benefit of using VPN, most especially in times like these, when we tend to do everything online including banking, shopping, paying bills.

With that being said, it is good to keep in mind that internet use is like a double-edged sword. It has both its pros and cons. It is up to us on how we keep ourselves real lives protected, and at the same time, enjoy the benefits that the online world gives us. We’ve got the tools, use it to our advantage, right?

With VPN, traveling the world has never been easy! We can do it right at the comfort and security of our own homes.
