Sesto Robotics expands into Europe, targeting Germany, Austria, Switzerland

Singapore-based Sesto Robotics is expanding into Europe, targeting Germany, Austria, Switzerland.

Sesto is believed to be the first Singapore-based robotics company to provide autonomous mobile robot solutions for smart manufacturing in Europe.

Sesto says it is Singapore’s leading autonomous mobile robot company, and is partnering with the Germany-based automation specialist Baumüller, to bring its flagship AMR Sesto Magnus (Magnus) to Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Sesto is the first Singapore-based robotics company to offer autonomous mobile robot solutions focused on smart manufacturing in Europe.

Designed and made in Singapore, Magnus is specially built for navigation in space-scarce facilities and can travel autonomously through spaces as narrow as 0.9 metres wide while avoiding obstacles in its path.

Its bi-directional, same-speed capability allows the AMR to reverse out of dead ends without the need to perform a spot turn.

Ang Chor-Chen, chief executive of Sesto Robotics, says: “Through our partnership with Baumüller, we will bring our Singapore designed AMR solution to the manufacturing, pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors in Europe.

“With Magnus, Baumüller will help businesses automate material transportation for a wide variety of applications, including intralogistics, machine assembly, testing and diagnostic technology.”

Based in Nuremberg, Baumüller is a leading manufacturer of electric drive and automation systems. Baumüller offers a comprehensive suite of intelligent hardware and software solutions to help businesses implement customised automation solutions at every point of a machine’s lifecycle.

The company offers various services ranging from systems engineering, after-sales service, to condition monitoring.

Baumüller is strengthening its drive and automation business through its system company, Baumüller Anlagen-Systemtechnik – offering Magnus for the automation of material handling and delivery processes. Sesto Robotics is the only robotics company providing AMRs to Baumüller.

Thomas Scholz, sales director of Baumüller Anlagen-Systemtechnik, says: “Demand for autonomous mobile robots is growing globally, with the global market expected to reach $8.3 billion by 2027.

“To cater to this growing demand, we have been looking for a partner to expand our product portfolio and offer customised automation solutions for businesses. We found the right partner in Sesto Robotics.”

He adds: “Sesto Magnus’ versatility enables limitless configurations on one single autonomous platform.

“By adding valuable customisations such as collaborative robots, UV and ozone disinfection equipment, scissor lift tables, intelligent racking systems and other individually implementable payloads to Magnus, we will help industries such as manufacturing, pharmaceutical and healthcare achieve the benefits of automation.”

Magnus is powered by Sesto’s proprietary user-friendly interface and can be easily deployed for material transportation using a tablet or laptop. The robot provides high uptime of up to ten hours on a single charge and fast battery charging in three hours.

Equipped with 270⁰ 2D LIDARS on the front and rear, Sesto Magnus ensures safety with its improved navigation and obstacle detection capabilities.

For example, in a busy narrow corridor, Magnus will stop when it detects an obstacle in its path, for instance, a trolley, wheelchair, or person. It will wait for the obstacle to be cleared or reroute its path if the obstacle is not removed after some time.

This intelligent behaviour assures facility managers that Magnus is safe to be deployed in environments where there might be a high volume of human traffic.
