5 Emerging Trends for Smart Application IoT Devices for Homes

March 23, 2021 by Polly Leave a Comment

Technology has evolved.

The old telephones were upgraded until they became portable devices, and later they turned into the smartphones everyone uses nowadays.

Computers were also created, and they offered people a series of new activities, whether it’s keeping in touch through social media, playing games, or watching movies.

That’s how artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the Internet of Things took over people’s lives and improved them through smarter technologies and devices.

Smart applications truly made our lives more convenient and gave us many options.

Alexa, for instance, only needs a few commands and it can set up the lighting you prefer, turn on the music you like, and so on.

People can also improve their home security using the Internet of Things or increase comfort in their homes.

Slowly, certain trends are emerging, and they will be more and more obvious as time goes by.

Let’s find them out!

Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity is a fast-growing interest. People are more and more aware of the dangers of the Internet and want to protect themselves against potential cyberattacks.

Currently, people need to set up firewalls in order to stay away from hackers. In that regard, they can also use a VPN to encrypt their Internet.

A VPN can be used to encrypt your home WiFi network, and thus protect your private information from cybercriminals who might plan to steal it.

At the moment, people have to set up every area separately, but things will evolve. In the future, we will have security built into our homes, and it will function as a smart hub.

IoT devices will get very popular in 2021 and move further, mostly because they are very innovative and intuitive.

As a result, they will aid with home automation and security, making people feel safer in their own homes.

Devices will include video analytics and transparency, while the home will have different monitoring systems and smart locks.

Smart Bathrooms

You spend a good amount of time in the bathroom, so you might as well make it as comfortable as possible. Thankfully, there is an emerging trend for smart bathrooms.

We already have ways to set up the mood of the house using different apps or systems like Alexa, where you can ask for certain music, lighting, or other aspects that make you feel comfortable at home.

In the future, the customization will be taken up a notch. There will be mood-lit mirrors, Bluetooth speaker showerheads, exact water temperature, and so on.

Furthermore, each family member will be able to save their own settings. This is going to be one of the best smart trends for 2021 and the years to come.

Quality Connectivity

All smart home appliances need proper connectivity to serve you well. Although there are appliances with decent connectivity, they’re still not perfect.

User experience is often bad because the devices are lacking in the connectivity aspect.

To help solve this problem, companies are trying to create smart home appliances that are able to perform extensive work.

A big trend for smart home technology is a hub where all the devices you connect will allow you to control and manage them.

These connectivity hubs include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, and other IoT tools. 2021 will be the year these technologies gain traction.

Mesh WiFi

While WiFi technology has improved over the years, it’s still not in an optimal state. If you have one single WiFi point in your home, it is still not enough to connect more devices at the same time.

People need larger coverage and mesh WiFi could be the way to do that. Mesh WiFi is not that recent, but it is much better than a typical router thanks to using AI, which helps provide more connectivity speed.

This technology will take over in 2021, revolutionizing WiFi to allow it to run a smart home without issues. Netgear and Linksys are only two examples of companies that are providing amazing WiFi devices.

Retail Apps IoT

Online shopping is common nowadays. Companies are working to improve their systems to make online shopping a better experience for people overall.

Even though it’s good at the moment, it still needs some improvements. As such, IoT integration will be used in the eCommerce industry.

IoT-enabled mobile applications will become a thing, and people will be able to navigate using in-sitemaps to check their favourite stores.

Moreover, customers will receive more personalized in-app ads based on what their shopping history is.

The Bottom Line

As you can see, 2021 and the years to come will bring on various trends in terms of smart IOT devices for people’s homes.

Smart bathrooms and kitchens, as well as better connectivity and mesh WiFi, are only several examples. So, it might not take long until you have the smart home of your dreams.
